Construction on a new biomethane refuelling station broke ground this summer. The site will be in the South East in Aylesford and when completed will be able to supply 500 tanks of fuel a day. Although not zero emission, biomethane is only a 5th of the emissions. It is a fuel that has it challenges, especially in the production of it. Nonetheless, if it is responsibly produced it provides a great alternative to diesel and can rapidly reduce operator's emissions. A great transitional solution. https://lnkd.in/eSJCDtk2

SPITZKE SE has signed a contract with Vossloh Rolling Stock, a subsidiary of the Chinese corporation CRRC MA, for the delivery of 10 DE18 #locomotives, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply. These locomotives feature reduced harmful #emissions and comply with the stringent #European #environmental standards of Level V. The deliveries of the locomotives are scheduled to begin in the summer of 2025, with operations to be handled by SLG SPITZKE LOGISTIK GmbH, a subsidiary of SPITZKE specializing in the #transportation of #construction materials and #wasteremoval. The DE18 locomotives are certified to run on #biofuel derived from hydrotreated vegetable oils (HVO), which is an alternative to traditional diesel fuel. Notably, no modifications to the locomotive equipment are required to use this type of fuel. Using HVO significantly reduces #carbondioxide #emissions—by up to 90%—and also lowers the amount of unburned particulate matter in the exhaust gases. This is an important step towards reducing the environmental impact of #railway #transport. The conclusion of this contract reflects SPITZKE’s commitment to implementing modern #technologies and improving environmental conditions. The choice of DE18 locomotives underscores the importance of transitioning to cleaner and more #efficient types of #fuel in the railway industry. The Level V environmental standards that these locomotives meet are among the strictest in the world, and their compliance demonstrates the high standards set by SPITZKE for its logistics operations. The use of HVO biofuel in railway transport opens new opportunities for reducing the #carbonfootprint. This fuel is produced from #renewable sources and has a significantly lower carbon footprint compared to traditional diesel. Thus, the implementation of such technologies not only contributes to environmental protection but also helps companies comply with increasingly stringent environmental regulations and requirements. It is worth noting that DE18 locomotives are already in demand in the European market. In May 2024, the Italian company Polo Logistica FS ordered eight locomotives of this model from VOSSLOH Rolling Stock. This demonstrates the recognition of the efficiency and environmental benefits of these locomotives in various European countries. The contract between SPITZKE and Vossloh Rolling Stock is an important step in the development of environmentally #sustainable railway transport. The introduction of locomotives running on biofuel not only reduces harmful emissions but also promotes #innovative technologies in the transport sector. Thus, the cooperation between these companies will contribute to improving environmental conditions and the implementation of advanced solutions in railway logistics.
