❗ NEWS ALERT for the #automotive and #tire industry! We are now providing our Renewable Functional Filler to the tire industry! Together with our partner Nokian Tyres plc we are revolutionizing the industry by introducing the first tire with our UPM BioMotion Renewable Functional Filler (RFF). Why is this a revolution? Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/eEnRTq_z 🌳 The partnership launches UPM’s CO₂-negative Renewable Functional Filler into a new market segment and highlights the possibilities to use a lighter weight, 100% renewable alternative to traditional CO₂-intensive fillers. Our lignin-based RFF contain 100% renewable carbon and have a negative carbon footprint from cradle to gate including biogenic carbon and purchasing green electricity. 🚗 Functional fillers represent approximately 30% of a tire and consist of materials such as primarily carbon black and precipitated silica. According to an initial test series by Nokian Tyres, replacing conventional functional fillers with UPM’s renewable alternative offers great potential for more sustainable tires and therefore is a highly relevant component on the path towards sustainable mobility. ✔ Nokian Tyres will be the first tire manufacturer incorporating UPM’s Renewable Functional Fillers into their concept tire. When tires wear on pavement, 6PPD is released. It reacts with ozone to become a different chemical, 6PPD-q, which can be extremely toxic — so much so that it has been linked to repeated fish kills in Washington state. Do you offer any products which eliminate the usage of 6PPD?
