We kicked off our brand-new Tocqueville event series, Leaders Exchange, with a terrific conversation featuring Tim Spence, Chairman, President and CEO of Fifth Third Bank, and Moira Weir, President and CEO of United Way of Greater Cincinnati. Tim shared his insights on fostering community relationships and the importance of philanthropy and corporate social responsibility. He highlighted how partnering with organizations like UWGC helps Fifth Third break down barriers in banking to promote financial inclusion. And he pointed out the importance of bringing critical services directly to the communities that need them the most and approaching challenges holistically. As one of our top #WorkplacesThatCare, Fifth Third is a longtime supporter of Greater Cincinnati and remains committed to making a positive community impact across the region; in Tim’s words, “doing well by doing good.” Thank you to everyone who attended and made the evening a success! In the nonprofit sector, embracing diversity cannot simply be a conversation about entry-level employees. Leadership, especially at the C-suite level, must reflect the same inclusive culture. When a company touts diversity but fails to represent it at the highest levels, it creates a disconnect that threatens long-term success. A truly inclusive organization doesn’t stop at programs or training—it builds a culture where every face at the table is a true reflection of our diverse world. Without representation at the top, even the best-intentioned organizations risk becoming out of touch. Let’s advocate for holistic diversity that extends beyond initiatives, transforming the very core of our organizations. #DiversityInLeadership #NonprofitDiversity #InclusiveCulture

Home is a great place to be. It's a place that is hard to replicate and a feeling that emulates belonging, hopefully for the majority of us. I've created a new blog entry, this time on a different type of homecoming: coming home to my Maxwell Leadership family. To all of my new Maxwell Family, comment below if you can pinpoint what made you feel a Sense of Belonging, whether this year at IMC or a past event. #leaderslead #maxwellleadership

Saturday, I started the Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership, Georgetown University's 8-day nonprofit executive leadership certificate program with 50 other impressive nonprofit leaders. The first block of the curriculum dived into adaptive leadership and current issues facing nonprofits. Two things stood out to me as it relates to current issues: 1. Serving vs. Solving - a critical inflection point where many nonprofits find themselves—caught between serving immediate needs and deciding whether or not to make a leap to solving more considerable systemic challenges. The discussion highlighted the need to adapt to major shifts in our sector, such as economic inequality, mental health, social justice, and climate emergencies. Nonprofits must evolve from mere service providers to proactive problem solvers to truly make a lasting impact on our respected communities. 2. We also discussed the influence technology, data, and AI play, learning how to navigate and embrace it appropriately and consider the risks both internally with our stakeholders and externally with current and potential partners. #NonprofitLeadership #Georgetown #Philanthropy #SocialImpact #DEI

In celebration of #NationalLeadershipDay (today, Feb 20), I want to celebrate all those working to make life better for others. You are a leader if you: ✅ Help others ✅ Have a vision bigger than yourself ✅ Want to leave your corner of the world better than you found it ✅ Stand up for what is right ✅ Deflect credit to others ✅ Take personal responsibility for your life ✅ Take responsibility for outcomes that don't go as planned (even if it's not 'your fault') ✅ Do more than what is required of you ✅ Invest in the next wave of leaders ✅ Help others believe in themselves and discover their potential ✅ Give back ✅ Find ways to make your community a better place (through volunteerism, philanthropy, or even connecting the right people or resources) A massive thank you to all those leading by example, and helping others along the way. 🙏 The world needs more great leaders, now more than ever! (What else makes someone a leader in your opinion?)

We help leaders clarify and communicate their work, which includes getting them out into the world to share their story! When we ourselves are speaking (hi from #SXSW this year! 📸), my cofounder Lane & I tend to focus on one of three areas: communication as a leadership skill, nonprofits building resilient revenue models to decrease reliance on philanthropy, and being female founders in the social impact space. Do you know what you’d speak about, if you stepped on stage?
