Having an audience is one thing; having a passionate and engaging audience is quite another. As an artist, you want to draw in not just any audience, but the most passionate group of individuals. You need to understand that passionate fans/audience don't just appear out of thin air. Obviously, you can convert someone from passive to dedicated fans, but if you do a little research on people who become passionate fans, you'll discover that they often have a pre-existing enthusiasm for your genre or similar artists. The majority of individuals who end up becoming passionate fans of you and your music were already passionate about your genre/micro genre and artists who are similar to you before they met you. This is why many artists struggle to connect with and engage their audience, because they used intrusive techniques like comment spam, and Facebook ads to attract the worst possible group of people who only have a positive inclination towards them, rather than putting in the effort to find people who are already passionate about your genre or micro genre and artists who are similar to you. When you put in the effort, you'll attract people who are enthusiastic about your genre, easy to turn into dedicated fans, who will engage actively. #music #musicindustry #musicbusiness #musicians #singersongwriters

I’m here today advocating for artist rights in order to try to encourage those at the top to care a little more when it comes to our rights and our experience. I would like to bring this issue to the attention of all the organizations who are involved in artist services. The incompetence in the customer service sector is remarkable and extremely frustrating for an artist to say the least. Artists are hankering for a human voice. There needs to be an artist service that takes care of every aspect of an artist’s needs, from distribution to payouts, monetization and legal issues. Something needs to be done immediately at the highest levels of the music industry especially as it pertains to each and every social media platform. Why do artists have to go between 5 or more different services just to be able to effectively manage our music catalog, rights and distribution. Why is it so difficult for you guys to take strong action and implement effective strategies to help artists. Why are we even paying you guys if you can’t even effectively address these issues? Please make sure you are doing the right things to create a better overall experience for every artist who has put their trust in you. Zendo J Morales

Merlin Is Here to Help - https://lnkd.in/g2PJNaiW - Some of the most important workplace skills can only be learned on the job — from building relationships with colleagues to positioning yourself for a promotion to dealing with long hours to being able to tell if a work situation is truly strange or totally normal. But for women — many of whom find it easier to confide in other women at work — finding a colleague to figure these things out with can be harder in a male-skewing industry like the music business. A 2023 study conducted by Luminate, Tunecore and Believe found a host of female-specific challenges in the music industry, including increased instances of sexual harassment, ageism and unequal representation along with a persistent wage gap. These challenges are particularly acute in the indie realm, where, despite some improvements, senior leadership continues to be largely male. Related Merlin Unveils 2024 Board, Prioritizes 'Meaningful, Sustainable and Value-Driven Member Growth' 03/01/2024 “Independents tend to be niche spaces and our company sizes are smaller,” says Katie Alberts, COO of the Atlanta-based Reach Records. “If you have a historic trend of men being in leadership and your company only has 10 people, you might not have that female executive within your company as an example for other women.” To take on the issue, Merlin, the digital music licensing partner for independent labels, launched a new mentorship program for women, Merlin Engage, early last year. The program paired 18 executive-level mentors with mentees from around the indie label space for a six-month program designed to offer community, leadership skills and advice on how to thrive and rise within the industry and the indie space in particular. The program was initiated by Marie Clausen, managing director of Ninja Tune North America and a Merlin Engage mentor. The 2024 Merlin Engage program starts March 20. When she applied for the debut program, Magali Ould of Secret City Records was in discussions with upper management about a possible promotion. “We’re 14 employees,” she says. “It’s not a huge company, so every promotion is crucial.” Magali Ould and Katie Alberts Secret City president/CEO Justin West, who’s also a Merlin board member, suggested that Ould apply to the Engage program to connect with other women in leadership roles. Ould was accepted and paired with Jenna LoMonaco, the head of U.S. marketing at digital distribution service ONErpm. Over the next six months, the pair regularly spoke on the phone, discussing things like how to build and demonstrate leadership
