Years ago a previous employer told me "In order to succeed in the hospitality business, you have to be heartless". We had a disagreement on a termination of an employee, and he felt that sometimes you just need to fire people and move on. Why exactly would we need to do that when instead it would be beneficial to the company if we structured a system to retain and improve our staff. Inexperienced management terminates and hopes for better results on the next roll, never taking blame for bad results and no growth. Implementing first-class culture and a progressive discipline system are crucial for the development of the business and betterment of the PEOPLE that work for you.
