🏠 The growing housing crisis in the UK, especially during the festive season, has left us deeply moved. The heartbreaking reality of almost 139,000 children facing a Christmas without a place to call home is a stark reminder of the urgency in addressing our housing challenges. As we read about families, like Adam's, who suddenly found themselves homeless after years of stability, we feel a renewed sense of determination in our mission. The spiralling costs to councils for temporary accommodation, reaching £1.7bn, indicate a crisis that demands immediate attention. At Rent Connect, these stories resonate deeply within our team. We're committed more than ever to offer housing solutions that positively impact lives, striving to turn the tide on this distressing trend. Our hope for brighter tomorrows propels our unwavering dedication to making a difference. This Holiday season, our thoughts are with every family experiencing housing uncertainty. We share Holly's wish for a home and the joy that comes with it. Let's work together towards a future where no child spends the festive season without a place to call home. https://lnkd.in/eni7Jmb3 #HousingCrisis #HomelessnessUK #HousingSolutions #FestiveSeason #RentConnectUK #CommunitySupport #BrighterFutureAhead 🏡✨

🏠 Facility Feature 🏠 Herring Cove Apartments – Part 1: Today, we’re kicking off our facility feature of Herring Cove Apartments (HCA), one of the seven facilities run by Shelter Nova Scotia. HCA is a supported living environment for individuals who identify as male, are experiencing long term Alcohol Use Disorder and have a history of homelessness. We provide supported, affordable housing to up to 12 people in the form of shared apartments, enabling our tenants to create a sense of community. The folks housed at HCA are some of the most marginalized and stigmatized individuals. Coming from a long history of being unhoused and living with Alcohol Use Disorder they have faced barrier after barrier to have their basic needs met. HCA provides a safe place to call home, to re-stabilize and settle in a judgement-free supportive environment. At the end of the day, we are housing people – some of the most resilient, kind-hearted people that are just as deserving of the basic right of housing as anyone else. Due to the hardships they have faced in their lives, a lot of the tenants at HCA have very complex health histories. For some, HCA is able to provide a safe, peaceful place of comfort for their final days and for others the supports that we are able to offer help them to navigate and improve their health in a manner which was previously unobtainable to them. By 2032, the median rent in Colorado is expected to reach $2,700 per month, requiring an income of $106,000 per year ($51 per hour) to be considered affordable. Housing is considered affordable when it costs less than 30% of your monthly income. This increase will continue to make affordable housing less and less attainable to low- and moderate-income households. If we want vibrant communities where employees like teachers, hospitality workers, home health aides and more can live and thrive, we need to ensure that there are a wide range of affordable housing options at all income levels. Learn more about how Thistle Community Housing is a part of the affordable housing solution: https://lnkd.in/gXbG_3Kg #AffordableHousing #Boulder #Colorado
