An update: Last week CRU and members of the National Alliance of Capacity Building Organisations (NACBO) learned our applications for individual capacity building funding were unsuccessful. Thank you for supporting our efforts to continue our capacity building work with people with disability and their families. If you have, please keep spreading the word.   Apart from the immediate crisis, trying to work for long term change on this short-term funding simply doesn’t work.  If governments want high quality capacity building initiatives for all Australians, then forcing community organisations to compete against each other for funding is a risky strategy. Instead, they need to look at what helps people with disability and their families thrive and provide ongoing funding to ensure that can continue. https://lnkd.in/gVN6Rkwv

The Sequential Intercept Model is an important framework for developing services for justice-involved people. There has been a lot of new funding available this year for SIM-based services, and FQHC-based services for people moving from incarceration back to the community. Building funding for these services often requires developing services with community partners around specific SIM points, or clusters.

Just came across a compelling piece by the Center for the Study of Social Policy on 'Removing the Barriers Facing Providers of Culturally Responsive Services.' It's an important read for anyone committed to dismantling the barriers that prevent families and children of color from receiving the support they need. One of the findings that stuck out to us was how providers struggle to navigate restrictive evidence-based requirements. Because there are very few evidence-based findings and little time and resources that can be devoted to gathering data, sometimes much-needed services are not redirected to communities that need them most. A possible solution? Get agencies to collaborate with community members in identifying effective practices via focus groups, town halls, and surveys. Then, fund organizations that offer services matching these needs AND support evaluations to build evidence. The report Building Bridges, Safer Communities is out now! 27 residents from Liverpool joined a citizen panel that aimed to find ways to improve community safety and policing. Their dedication and collaborative work resulted in 46 recommendations being proposed.
