We are at a mental & behavioral health crisis in the US. People have no where to go. They resort to ERs where the care they need is not likely to be found and as a result clog our Emergency Rooms. If your lucky enough to get one of the beds in a facility they are dark, they are outdated and patients like feel as if they are second class citizens. When we have millions of Sq. Feet of vacant space and so much more vacancy to come… why are we continuing to ciecle conversations about getting people back to an office instead of creatively figuring out how to repurpose our assets to meet the needs of society? #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #behavioralhealth

Is adequacy enough? Sure it's enough for #CMS. But is it enough for your members? While #BehavioralHealth comes more under the spotlight, it's useful to look at the minimum provider requirements to offer a #MedicareAdvantage network in the most populous counties in the U.S. What's shocking to me is the surprisingly low number of BH providers required to offer a network. Especially in lieu of the recent findings around accuracy (~15%), that would mean this is likely just one #SocialWorker is available for almost 400,000 MA beneficiaries.... 😡 (in Kings Co, NY) How should we take these data points in mind and create #action when combating the mental health epidemic for our senior citizens? #Medicare #AgingPopulation #NetworkAdequacy

Safe, stable, affordable housing in a person’s community is essential to recovery. Housing affirms a person’s dignity. Housing offers hope. Housing creates pathways to employment, education, and independence. In addition, supportive housing offers critical wrap-around services to people with complex mental health needs, decreasing unnecessary hospitalizations and use of emergency services. In the midst of the affordability crisis in New York State, individuals with mental health needs cannot be left behind. Many rely on SSI as their sole source of income, which is calculated to be below the federal poverty line, and thus leaves people unable to compete in the housing market. Mental health housing programs work, and they need to be fully funded.

In the 2021 Community Health Needs Assessment we found 23% of 10th graders surveyed reported having seriously considered attempting suicide.
