Credit unions have been advocating for financial literacy to be part of high school curriculum throughout California for several years. Now, the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues and credit unions across the state have a chance to take this issue to the voters with a 2024 ballot initiative. The initiative would require CA high school students to take a personal finance course as a high school graduation requirement. (We happen to know of a good one, but we might be biased. 😊 ) Learn more at https://lnkd.in/gxdHvVBF #financialwellness #financialliteracy #creditunions #californiacreditunions #CANVLeagues

State financial aid is a critical piece of college affordability for students from low-income backgrounds. Nearly three quarters of all students attend college in their home state—typically required for state-based financial aid—and low-income and first-generation students are even more likely than their peers to attend college locally. Despite the large amount of aid awarded and the importance of state financial aid for many students, there is far less scrutiny on state programs than on federal financial aid. The result is a patchwork of 50 different state systems with much variation. https://ow.ly/cPb750Q1hJj

For those student’s parents who are divorced, applying for college financial aid becomes more complicated.
