Union of Concerned Scientists’ Post

📢NEW: A UCS analysis shows that nearly 3 million people living along US coastlines can expect some of the critical infrastructure in their communities – from schools and fire stations to power and wastewater treatment plants -- to flood twice or more per year between by 2050. Over half of at-risk infrastructure serves communities bearing the burdens of historical and ongoing racism, discrimination, and pollution.

Looming Deadlines for Coastal Resilience

Looming Deadlines for Coastal Resilience

I suspect in many coastal towns/cities planners and municipal officials, working with colleges and universities, have already determined their vulnerable infrastructure and are implementing solutions. One excellent example of this type of regional collaboration is the NH Coastal Adaptation Workgroup (NHCAW.org). UCS’s vital contribution here is shining a light on the nationwide scope of vulnerability to SLR, and both the local and national implications. The one critical solution beyond reach of local officials is rapid and significant reductions in emissions.
