The pace and magnitude of the physical risks from climate change in all too many places is outpacing the ability of insurance to provide protection. The nation must scale up resources for climate resilience and ensure they are reaching communities in a just and equitable way.

Climate Change impacts everyone. Many homeowners with properties deemed safe from fire and flood risks, just a few years ago, are facing significantly higher rates or are being dropped altogether. Suburban homeowners with nearby streams and creeks thought to be attractive and “benign” at the time of purchase are now seeing them as significant risks which may drive up their rates. This problem isn’t going away. #climatechange Association of Climate Change Officers

3wPer Union of Concerned Scientists analysis, “…even as climate-driven disasters leave communities reeling, private insurers are continuing to underwrite insurance for the expansion of massive new fossil fuel projects that are directly responsible for fueling the climate crisis.” Is this not insane? And who pays the bills? You and me through ever increasing premiums.
