How do the graduate trainees at Fiji’s Reserve Bank celebrate a two day, interactive and enjoyable Program with each other? They jump for joy, that’s how! I talked about this group in an earlier post, but wanted to add an update. Over two days we covered 5 critical topics: Personal Branding, creating and maintaining a top Workplace Culture as a trainee, Emotional Intelligence and why it’s important across work and life and how to have critical Courageous Conversations effectively. In addition, they designed a Team Charter for the Bank of which all staff will contribute before it is rolled out across the Organisation. To make further impact, we also took them through theory and played strategic interactive activities and role plays with them, to help build their skills in a fairly short time. The outcome? The photograph says it all: an enjoyable and interactive Program with key outcomes to help the participants grow and develop in critical work and life skills. Rise and run, they said! Imagine shadowing your Managing Director of Unilever East Africa Stefan Cloete at the crack of dawn, sprinting to catch up as he blazed a trail of wisdom and insights! Well, that's precisely what I experienced during my extraordinary time in Ethiopia, where morning runs turned into an exhilarating pursuit of knowledge and growth! Brace yourself for just but some golden nuggets of wisdom from my unforgettable "Explore and Learn with SteFun, Yabsera Deres and @EnockMuzoora " adventure! 1.      Fairly Right is Better than Precisely Wrong One of the valuable lessons I've learned from SteFun is the importance of taking decisive action, even when one doesn’t have all the answers at hand. In the fast-paced world we operate in, waiting for absolute perfection can lead to missed opportunities and stagnation. Instead, I've come to understand that making a fairly right decision, based on the available data and insights, and adjusting as we go, can lead to remarkable progress   2.      Better Execution of a Strategy over the Best Strategy Executed Wrong My time shadowing has reinforced the understanding that successful outcomes are often a result of dedicated effort, attention to detail, and clear communication during the execution phase. It's not just about having the best strategy, but rather ensuring it is carried out thoughtfully and efficiently.   3.      During my time shadowing SteFun, I had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the art of strategic thinking across three horizons. The most profound lessons came from SteFun’s vision for the third horizon. He encouraged us to think beyond immediate gains and consider the long-term impact of our decisions.   Overall, shadowing SteFun's strategic thinking in the three horizons has provided me with a comprehensive framework for effective leadership and decision-making. I've learned the significance of balancing short-term goals with long-term vision.   As I embark on my own career journey, I am grateful for the mentorship and wisdom I've gained, and I am excited to apply these invaluable insights to shape a meaningful impact in my future endeavors. 🌍Today, I had an incredibly enriching and personally validating experience from some of my past efforts during my internship at the International Labour Organization a few months ago. The Pan African Dialogue Series, was an in-house initiative born out of the necessity for me to find meaningful mentors and role models that resonated with my personal aspirations and future goals. 🚀 Over time, this series has become a resounding success, engaging young professionals, interns and African leaders at the ILO and facilitating meaningful exchange. The series supported colleagues in developing invaluable skills, gaining career guidance and fostering a deeper understanding of the cultural intricacies within the ILO. 🌐 Our remarkable speakers and attendees have continuously played a pivotal role in shaping the future of African leadership and building a strong, supportive community. 🤝 In essence, the Pan African Dialogue Series has proven to be an essential building block for young Africans at the ILO as we embark on our careers. These connections, guidance, and opportunities can prove to be instrumental in our pursuit of success and our ability to make a positive impact in our respective fields. 💼 Listening to the 7th session of the series today was especially encouraging, as we were honoured by the attendance of the Director-General of the ILO himself! Mr. Gilbert F. Houngbo's words were refreshingly honest and encouraging. And, as we all venture into new phases of our professional journeys, his candid insights into his own career path offered a wealth of rich perspective. 🌟 A key takeaway for me was that Mr. Houngbo underscored the importance of emotional intelligence and taking calculated risks as key elements in climbing the career ladder. 🧠 So, to all my fellow professionals out there, don't be discouraged, be bold and have audacity and conviction in your endeavours! Having served as a former ERG Chair and currently as a Community Leader supporting ERG leaders and oversight managers worldwide in their development and growth, I've firsthand witnessed the transformative power of these communities in shaping entire organizational cultures.
