Last week, Harm-Jan van der Beek visited an organic dairy farm in Wisconsin (US) to gain a deeper understanding of the regulations that organic farmers must follow. To support both farmers and milk processing facilities, UNIFORM-Agri is considering to create a speciale license, called UNIFORM Organic. The Wisconsin farmer, who has been certified organic for several years, shared valuable insights into the specific practices needed to maintain organic status. Given the stringent requirements for organic certification, milk processing facilities must also provide thorough documentation to verify the milk’s organic integrity. With this visit, our company has gained crucial knowledge that could be incorporated into the UNIFORM Organic license, making compliance easier for both farmers and processors. #OrganicFarming #DairyFarming #SustainableAgriculture #AgTech #InnovationInAgriculture #FarmManagement

🔰 Role of Farmer’s Diary in Grower Group Certification for Smallholder Farmers ✳ In Grower Group Certification, smallholder farmers collectively follow organic standards like NPOP (India), NOP (USA), and EU Organic Regulations. ✴ A key tool in this process is the farmer's diary, where each farmer records essential data on planting, inputs (fertilizers, pesticides), and harvests. ✴ This documentation helps ensure transparency, traceability, and compliance with organic standards across the group. ✴ According to NPOP Chapter 5, NOP NOSB Recommendation 2002 & 2008, and EU Regulation 2018/848 Article 39, maintaining accurate records is crucial for internal control systems (ICS) and external audits, ensuring the group meets organic certification requirements. Thinking beyond organic! 🌱 Organic vegetables for HiPP are cultivated 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆, 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘆𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗽𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀, 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘀. Our contract farmers keep the health of their crop and soil in excellent condition with green manure and an intelligent crop rotation system, while birds and beneficial insects are in charge of pest control. We may harvest smaller quantities but, by employing natural methods, we protect the climate, the groundwater and improve the quality of our ingredients. Did you know that HiPP has even bred a new carrot – the HiPP Dulcis 🥕 – for its special use in our organic baby food? Watch the video to get to know more about organic farming at HiPP. Organic grown products, such as fruits and vegetables, attract higher prices in the market because they are healthier and safer for consumers and the farming practices are cleaner and more environmentally friendly. As organic fruit and vegetables attract a higher price in the market, this can lead to economically motivated fraud through mislabeling produce as “organic” when they have been grown using synthetic fertilizer. Laboratories need an analytical technique that can differentiate organic and non-organic grown fruit and vegetables: this can be achieved using the nitrogen isotope fingerprints measured using the EA IsoLink IRMS System. #organicfood #foodtesting #thermofisherscientific #fssai #bis #npop

Last month, at the #EOC2024, the organic movement published its vision for a #CAP fit for the future, supporting the #StrategicDialogue's view that a transition to sustainable agri-food systems is necessary and should work fairly for farmers, nature & society. Read more in our position paper 👉 https://lnkd.in/eB_VwxGr #FutureOfCAP
Today, I had the pleasure of attending the online plenary meeting of our Interest Group of Organic Farmers (#IGOF). Amongst other hot political files, we discussed the CAP 2023-2027 and its potential to better support organic farmers and facilitate the transition to more sustainable food systems. The #CAP should reward farmers that are already contributing to this vision, incentivise and support those that are willing to adopt sustainable practices, ensure the long-term sustainability and resilience of the agricultural sector, also through reducing administrative burdens and ensuring fair prices to producers. I invite you to read IFOAM Organics Europe’s position paper on the topic to learn more: https://lnkd.in/dUpQHrRv We also had the opportunity to address the recent report of the “Strategic Dialogue on the Future of Agriculture,” in which IFOAM Organics Europe participated. The report recognises organic farming as the leading legally certified sustainability system. It also calls for stimulating organic demand (through sustainable public procurement for example) ensuring adequate funding for organic farming via the CAP, and securing funding for organic research and innovation: https://lnkd.in/dktRXQzg As one of our four interest groups, the IGOF represents our voice from the organic farming community and they formulate policies and positions relevant to their sector. I look forward to continuing the dialogue with our IGOF members to work towards a CAP that fairly compensates organic farmers and genuinely rewards proportionally to the environmental services they deliver. #FutureOfCAP #StrategicDialogue
