Our 2024 #edelman Trust Barometer was launched this week #worldeconomicforum Economic Forum in #Davos, where the focus of discussion among participants is on the theme of "Rebuilding Trust". Our latest #trust report delves into this, specifically on how the rapid pace of change and innovation is impacting societies, and how people are responding to the bewildering changes around them, from the shift to green technologies to the emergence of AI. The overall sense among respondents in many countries was that innovations such as #AI, while bringing many upsides, is not being well managed, with its rapid roll-out leaving many doubtful about the benefits, and wondering whether the changes are more to the benefit of better off segments of society. This undermines trust in institutions across the board, giving rise to further polarisation in society, the focus of last year's report. Many are of the view that Science itself is too politicised, and too much under the control of governments. They would like Businesses to step up, with CEOs, scientists and technical experts playing a bigger role in shaping the way forward. In a few weeks, we will also launch a more detailed APAC study on the findings, which goes deeper into how these issues are playing out in Asia, with country specific findings. Is Europe truly lagging in innovation and AI? This perspective, while common, can be misleading. Recognising structural and ecosystem dependencies is certainly critical, but not enough. I think that the challenge for Europe is broader: it's about rethinking the role of technology in driving economic growth and social well-being. My short pamphlet delves into the history of innovation in Europe over the past decades, examining how the EU has dealt with it. I also sketch out some ideas for innovation that transcend both the typical arms race narrative and the GenAI excitement, to embrace a holistic view of the positive role technology could take reshape Europe's future. Digital business models in highly regulated markets I CEO CertifAI I Board Member German AI Association
This week at Süddeutsche Zeitung Wirtschaftsgipfel I had the chance to share the panel with Kenza Ait Si Abbou and Dr. Andreas Liebl moderated by Judith Wittwer Herter and talk about recent AI industry developments and how we as Europeans can stay competitive. Two main takeaways: - the EU ecosystem driving this innovation needs (more) interest and significant funding from strategic/financial investors, as recently seen for Aleph Alpha - regulate AI systems can be an enabler in particular to create trust in technology (but only if regulation is focusing on use cases and for good reason already highly regulated products instead of regulating technology). Lets make sure the EU AI Act is becoming asap a rightful and pragmatic example for such a enabling digital regulation CertifAI SZGipfel KI Bundesverband
