🌍 Fostering Growth: Empowering Africa with blended finance in the #Agrifood Sector 🌾 The recent Africa Climate Summit in Nairobi was a pivotal moment in the global effort to combat climate change. UK-based private equity investment group, #UnitedGreen Group, presented several of their climate-smart and sustainable agri-food investment projects that will result in the deployment of USD$1.8bn over 5 key projects on the African continent. These projects will deliver profound food security and #climateadaptation #impact and highlights private sector’s commitment to a #sustainable future in which regenerative and #sustainableagriculture plays a critical part.   #foodsecurity isn't just a regional concern; it's a global imperative. Africa's #agricultural sector holds the key to not only feeding its rapidly growing population, but also contributing to the world's food supply. However, the path to sustainable agriculture is fraught with risks, from climate change impacts to market fluctuations; it requires levels of collaboration between private and public sector not seen before and more rigour than ever when planning effective development and investment projects to deliver permanent and sustainable solutions.    This is where early-stage development risk capital can make a profound difference. By providing funding and support to initiatives and large-scale projects combating food security issues in #Africa, we can effectively de-risk these endeavours, initiate vital development and investment projects faster, whilst making them more appealing to governments, investors and stakeholders.    Thanks to the #USAID and UK #FCDO Manufacturing Africa teams, for support with preparing material for the Summit and commitment to our shared mission. Harnessing Technology and Innovation: Africa’s Pathway to Sustainability In a compelling call to action, leaders across the African continent have voiced a unified message: investing in science, technology, and innovation is essential for building a prosperous, just, and sustainable future. The Sixth African Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Forum, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, served as a platform for this pivotal discussion. The forum, organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and other partners, emphasized the role of innovative solutions in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Agenda 2063. Ethiopia’s Minister for Technology and Innovation, Belete Molla, highlighted the nation’s initiatives in transforming the food system, focusing on agricultural productivity, self-sufficiency, and climate change resilience. These efforts are part of Ethiopia’s broader strategy, “Digital Ethiopia 2025,” which aims to leverage the youth’s innovative potential to create employment opportunities. Antonio Pedro, Deputy Executive Secretary for Programme Support at the ECA, underscored the importance of investing in human capital, research and development, and the adoption of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and genomics. These technologies have the power to transform lives, lifting millions out of extreme poverty and advancing the well-being of households across the continent. As we navigate the complexities of the 21st century, Africa’s commitment to science and technology stands as a beacon of hope. It is a reminder that through innovation and strategic investment, we can overcome challenges and usher in an era of sustainable growth and equity.
