HR’s not replying or giving feedback is a norm in Pakistan’s corporate sector. This is what happens when a company fails to hire a proper HR and instead anyone with “Relevant Experience” is sitting at the place of a designated person. Your company’s ignorance towards a potential applicant maybe an everyday job for you but the applicant on average waits 1-2 weeks just to hear from the applied company. And when you don’t send out an email/text message, the applicant starts getting demoralized and it goes on. One excuse that most HR’s make is that “We have so many applicants. How can we reply to them all?” IT IS YOUR JOB TO REPLY and the least that you can do for a candidate. Experience and a pleasant behaviour don't automatically make someone a good HR professional. Unfortunately, in Bangladesh, many HR seem to prioritize the company's interests over their role as a bridge between employees and management. While it's true they're paid by the company, the essence of HR should be about supporting people and shaping a positive workplace culture. It's disappointing to see some Bangladeshi HR professionals become rude when employees face issues or during exit processes. It's like they treat the situation as if the employee has done something wrong. What's even more confusing is when the same HR team, who were critical before, suddenly tries hard to keep an employee when they have a better job offer. It just doesn't make sense. I mentioned a year ago, and I still believe it – never fully trust an HR person, especially in South Asia. Addressing Unprofessional HR Practices in Pakistan Hello LinkedIn community, I feel compelled to shed light on a concerning trend in the HR landscape in Pakistan that needs urgent attention. The rampant unprofessionalism observed during the hiring process not only reflects poorly on the HR profession but also adversely impacts job seekers. One prevalent issue is the inefficient use of resources during the recruitment process. It's disheartening to see candidates, often facing economic challenges, being called for physical interviews without a proper assessment of their technical expertise. For technical positions, a preliminary phone interview focused on the candidate's skills could save time, money, and provide a fair chance to the applicants. Moreover, there seems to be a lack of understanding among some HR professionals about the technical requirements of the positions they are hiring for. Conducting thorough phone interviews with candidates who possess the necessary skills would help in identifying suitable candidates before scheduling physical interviews. It's disconcerting to hear that some HR professionals prioritize personal connections over merit when filling positions. This not only undermines the principles of fair hiring but also creates an atmosphere of favoritism, which is detrimental to both organizations and job seekers. I believe that addressing these issues is crucial for fostering a more professional and equitable job market in Pakistan. By advocating for better hiring practices, we can contribute to a system that values candidates' time, expertise, and overall professional growth.
