UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell on the deadly strikes in Ukraine: “The attack on Okhmatdyt Hospital, the country’s largest medical centre for children, is yet another brutal reminder that nowhere is safe for children in Ukraine. Hospitals should be safe havens, and they are afforded a special level of protection under international law. There seems to be no end to the horror that children and their families are forced to endure. UNICEF will continue to work across Ukraine, including in frontline areas, to respond to the immediate needs of children and families. This includes providing lifesaving services and supplies, and mental health and psychosocial support. UNICEF is already providing emergency supplies to Okhmatdyt Hospital and stands ready to assist communities affected by today’s attacks.” #ForEveryChild, peace.

  • White and blue text on black background that says, "I am horrified by the news out of Ukraine today that at least 150 people have reportedly been killed or injured, and a children’s hospital severely damaged in Kyiv, during a wave of deadly missile strikes across the country. Civilians, including children and the facilities and services they rely on, must always be protected. More than anything, the children of Ukraine need lasting peace. - Catherine Russell, UNICEF Executive Director"

Reading this statement, it looks like missiles just randomly fell from the sky. I wonder why Russia isn’t mentioned once? It’s not an “escalation in Ukraine” and it’s not an anonymous “latest missile strikes”. It’s not a “Ukrainian war”, there is a very specific aggressor who must be mentioned. It’s Russia committing just another war crime by attacking Ukrainian civilian infrastructure. Maybe it’s time for United Nations and UNICEF to stop being afraid to call things by their names?

Maybe removing Russia from the UN Security Council would be a good idea? Stop pretending like you don't know who is behind the attacks. This is such a shameful statement.

UNICEF, The news from Ukraine is heartbreaking. Attacks on places meant to protect and heal, like the Okhmatdyt Hospital, are truly devastating. Children should never have to face such terror. UNICEF's unwavering commitment to providing emergency aid and support, even in the hardest-hit areas, is crucial. We all must stand together to ensure the safety and well-being of these innocent lives. More than anything, the children of Ukraine need peace and a future free from fear. My thoughts are with all the families affected. #foreverychild, peace.

Not a single word about the aggressor country! Who did the attack? Ghosts? It's a useless statement

Children need protection. So easy and so impossible for Europe.

There should be no other news than this until everyone understands what terror is happening and how not enough is done to stop this. This is heart breaking and unacceptable.

Horrifying and astonishing—until we realize there’s nothing we can do about it.
