April 15 will mark exactly one year since the conflict in Sudan broke out. At first, the world watched closely, but as time went on, the persistent coverage faded, leaving behind the devastating stories of a war-stricken region battling the severe implications of power struggles and climate change. The heroic Sudanese people, who bear no blame and have no control over these tragic circumstances, face heart-wrenching sufferings. Moreover, the terrifying threats of extreme hunger and large-scale violence cloud their future. However, every cloud has a silver lining. At Practical Action, the stormy conditions in Sudan have not dimmed our commitment. We have been effectively working to restore disrupted lives and provide essential support to those in dire need. Our efforts stretch across Darfur, Blue Nile, and Kassala states, and we have touched the lives of nearly 200,000 individuals. Our mission has continually revolved around providing long-term, sustainable solutions to issues related to climate change and conflict, directly engaging with the vulnerable groups we serve. Extreme Events in Africa Only Likely to Increase The African continent is facing increased vulnerable impacts due to the extreme weather events caused by climate change. Climate Change is impacting every continent on the globe, but at an extreme level in Africa where rural, tribal, and displaced populations are battling these environmental events. In Morocco, Rural areas in the Atlas, which were some of the hardest hit areas are disproportionately impoverished and mostly Amazigh population. While Morocco has made great progress on reducing poverty, the bulk of that progress has been demonstrated in urban areas, while rural areas, like the Atlas, lag behind and are disproportionately impoverished. Of the approximately 4 million people living under the poverty line in Morocco, 3 million are living in rural areas. To this end, we are already starting to see centers of Amazigh population decrying unequal treatment in rescue and relief efforts. In Libya, what is described as a disastrous situation, some of the affected areas are some of the poorest communities along the coast. The destruction appears greatest in Derna, a city formerly held by Islamic extremists in the chaos that has gripped Libya for more than a decade and left it with crumbling and inadequate infrastructure. As these communities face the long road to recovery, we must take climate change seriously as it impacts us all but leaves some debilitated for years to come. #ClimateChange #Equity #Libya #Morocco

Sudan is witnessing challenges and problems related to politics and corruption, and their impact on people's lives. However, Sudan also has positive and beautiful aspects. In the social and cultural fabric of Sudan, there is love and loyalty to the homeland. Sudanese show great dedication to preserving their heritage and culture and promoting community values. The country also has its natural resources and unparalleled natural beauty, including the Great Nile, fertile farmland and biodiversity. Despite the challenges facing Sudan, people remain steadfast, committed to their homeland and ready to work towards positive change. There is a strong will to build a better future for Sudan and to achieve peace and stability. Therefore, it is important that we connect and support each other on this journey. We may face difficulties and challenges, but with cooperation and solidarity, we can turn Sudan into a real "paradise" and achieve progress and prosperity

🌍The Convergence of Crises in Sudan🌍 As drought exacerbates conflict in Sudan, the dual threats of climate change and civil war threaten millions. When changing weather patterns overwhelm fragile systems, the stage is set for compound crises with consequences that ripple outward. Three years without adequate rains have devastated crops and pastoral lands across large regions of Sudan. Famine looms as food runs short. With livelihoods disappearing before their eyes, some have understandably turned to violence as crops fail and hunger rises. Yet violence will only birth more conflict and push communities deeper into crisis. Cooperation may offer the sole path forward. All sides must come together in good faith to negotiate political solutions providing stability and humanitarian access during this time of hardship. The international community too has a role in mediating talks and emergency aid efforts. But outsiders can only assist - sustainable peace must come from within. We must recognize our shared hopes beneath all divisions and find solutions honoring each other's humanity. War has not stopped Practical Action in Sudan. Practical Action has been working continuously in Sudan for more than four decades. Much of our work has been with rural communities in the states of Darfur, Blue Nile and Kassala. Across the country, people are already facing the harsh impacts of climate change. Irregular weather patterns are causing droughts and resource-driven conflict. Our staff have been working tirelessly to support people who are struggling to cope with desertification, environmental damage, soil degradation and lack of water. The outbreak of war across the country in April has posed enormous additional challenges. Yet our staff have remained dedicated to delivering what they have promised to the people they work alongside, often at the risk of their personal safety.
