I come here to catch up on what we missed. We study in a shelter, and I feel safe here. It's even suitable for living in. - Ihor, 12. Children in #Ukraine have missed out on vital parts of the school curriculum. Watch how UNICEF's catch-up classes are helping Ukrainian children continue their schooling in times of war.

🧒📚 The notion of ‘inclusiveness’ is gaining a broader meaning today. Therefore, when speaking about the special educational needs of children, I cannot overlook any Ukrainian child — both those who remain in the country and those who have found shelter abroad. Today, I spoke at a meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe's Standing Committee in support of the report ‘Quality education for children special education needs: challenges of the pandemic, war and digitalisation’ by my Ukrainian colleague Pavlo Sushko. I focused on the issues that require special support from international partners today: ▪️ rebuilding schools and building safe and comfortable bomb shelters; ▪️ providing children with electronic tools for online learning; ▪️ quality mental support and consideration of the needs of children who have suffered from the war, both physically and psychologically; ▪️ mutual recognition of coinciding school curriculum subjects to reduce the academic burden on children. The whole world is proud of the resilience of Ukrainian schoolchildren and educators who continue to learn and teach against all odds. In Kharkiv, Ukraine’s first underground school was built on the metro station, enabling hundreds of children to study in safety, yet without daylight. Yet, we must do everything possible to make quality education accessible to all. In this regard, we count on the help of our partners. #Inclusiveness #InclusiveEducation #EducationInUkraine #UkrainianChildren #PACE

Don’t forget about Ukrainian children. According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Education and Science, 3798 schools and pre-schools have been bombed, while 365 of them have been destroyed completely, putting the education of more than 5 million kids at risk. Children are particularly vulnerable during times of conflict. Witnessing violence, losing family members, being displaced, hearing the sirens every day for two years… all of this causes severe psychological trauma. The absence of education further exacerbates the situation, making kids more susceptible to various forms of deprivation. In today's reality of Ukraine, a school could be the only warm and safe place for kids, providing them with a sense of stability and structure 🙏 Seeds for Ukraine continues its daily efforts to support the Hopscotch Montessori Kyiv campus. This commitment is driven by the understanding that education for children during war is not only a fundamental right, but also a critical investment in the future of societies affected by conflict. Beyond the academic aspect, these institutions become sanctuaries for emotional healing and social support. MPhil Educational Leadership & School Improvement - Bridging Business Strategy and Pedagogical Innovation for Inclusive Learning Outcomes
Standing in Solidarity: Supporting UK Educators in Teaching About Palestine I recently supported the Learning to Resist: A National Back-to-School Conference on Palestine for UK Teachers. This powerful event was dedicated to equipping UK educators with the tools and strategies to teach about Palestine, engage in nuanced conversations, and confront complex topics like occupation and intersectional racism within their classrooms. While the lived experiences of Palestinian educators were a key theme, the primary goal was to support teachers here in the UK. We explored practical resources for teaching Palestinian history, culture, and struggle, ensuring that students can engage with these critical issues in an accessible and meaningful way. It was deeply inspiring to witness so many passionate educators coming together to navigate these vital themes—sharing knowledge, building community, and empowering one another to bring these conversations to the forefront of education. Let’s continue to stand in solidarity with educators everywhere, working to create more inclusive, aware, and critically engaged classrooms. #EducationForJustice #SolidarityWithPalestine #TeachingForChange #LearningToResist #IntersectionalAntiRacism #UKTeachers #GlobalEducation Centre for Lebanese Studies Maryam Bham Jee R.
