For the sake of a peaceful world. A world where #humanity, #equality, #cooperation and #dignity prevail, we need to do everything we can - peacefully - to demonstrate to our leaders that we are not tolerating this behavior. We cannot tolerate genocide. In the 1960s, Apartheid South Africa massacred (Sharpville and others) unarmed anti-Apartheid activists. The world responded with a compromise sanction (voluntary arms embargo) because powerful nations were happy to profit (through arms trade) from the oppression of Black people. During the Soweto youth uprising, riots that spread to other parts of South Africa in 1976, Apartheid South Africa again opened fire. This time, they captured, detained, tortured, and murdered school children. The world debated and finally imposed a mandatory arms embargo. But it was too late. You see, by the time the voluntary embargo was made mandatory, Apartheid South Africa had intensified its own arms research and production. The sanctions also didn’t stop them from hiring experts from the developed world and buying rights to manufacture weapons. Apartheid South Africa had gone as far as developing nuclear weapons around the same period as the mandatory arms embargo. The debate and delay in banning arms exports to South Africa made sanctions useless when they were finally imposed. It’s amazing how swiftly the EU approved sanctions on Russia after the invasion of the Ukraine.

I know its not popular to post things like this and I know I might get shadow banned for it. As an owner of a small law practice this could affect my ability to get clients and feed my family. But as a global citizen and a human being I must speak for the children of Palestine. What Hamas did in their name is not the fault of the children and other innocents and they do not deserve to be killed and maimed for it. How does the state of Israel think it can get away with wiping out an entire population? This is not supposed to be possible in our era. The international community is supposed to step in and prevent this kind of measured destruction of an entire community. It is only possible because there are never any consequences for Israel's blatant violations of international and humanitarian law. Sanctions must be brought against the state of Israel immediately, all military aid must stop until they comply with the law and the only way that will ever happen is if the citizens of the world stand up and demand it, regardless of the consequences to their personal lives.

All parties must ensure the protection of civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law. However, over a month has passed since the start of the war in Gaza and Israel and the attacks on the civilian population continue. 🔊 We talk about the rules of war #Gaza #Israel #HumanitarianAid

In a landmark decision, the International Courts of Justice said it had jurisdiction in the South Africa vs. Israel case. The interim ruling issued by the court ordered six provisional measures, directing Israel to prevent genocidal acts, combat incitement to genocide, and ensure immediate humanitarian aid in Gaza.
