Call for inputs for Professionals working in children's access to justice It is to be recalled that the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child has called all relevant bodies to provide input to help it issue General Comment 27 on children's rights to access to justice and effective remedies. The call for inputs is made for clarifying terms, suggesting alternative solutions or actions that signatory countries should take to implement the rights of the child under the Convention. The Federal Supreme Court Children's Justice Project, in collaboration with UNICEF Ethiopia has made this call to collect various ideas and experiences. The inputs will be collected, compiled and sent to the committee. Judges, lawyers, prosecutors, police officers, social workers and other professionals are all invited to provide input. I am excited to share my latest publication in the journal Children, Youth, and Environments. The article points out the various livelihood strategies of children living on the streets of Addis Ababa, with specific focus on their street subculture. Findings suggest that understanding and supporting the needs, skills, and creativity of street-connected children is crucial for effective interventions aimed at improving their lives. https://lnkd.in/dZFgYXUC https://lnkd.in/d-ykRZHE

👩🏫 Back at teaching Understanding Violence, Conflict and Development (online) at SOAS. In the next few months, we will explore how development theory has treated violence and conflict at different times, as well as contemporary theories and claims about the causes and dynamics of conflict. We look at themes in common between the study of types of violence and wars, and intervention in violent conflict including humanitarian aid, conflict resolution and reconstruction. YOUTH for PEACE in SOUTH SUDAN: The concept of "Youth, Peace, and Security" highlights the importance of educating young people on peacebuilding, peace-making, and development activities. Unfortunately, politicians often manipulate young people for their political gain. Therefore, youth must be involved in all #political, #social, and #media spaces. After the peace agreement, a series of radio programs and outreach advocacy events were organized to promote #peacebuilding. The software approach to conflict resolution as put forth by #UNESCO recognizes that conflicts originate in people's minds, so peace defences must be constructed in people's minds. This approach focuses on conflicts' psychological and educational aspects and can be used for #confidence-building, #peace education, and #peace dialogues. In conclusion, peace is vital for life, and the people of South Sudan want it. Involving women in the Ethiopia National Dialogue ensures that peacebuilding efforts are holistic, addressing the root causes of conflict and promoting reconciliation. Joint Statement for the International Children’s Day On this World Children’s Day, the Just4Yemen Pact Coalition stands united with 43 local and international organizations, collectively addressing the critical situation faced by Yemeni children and raising our collective voice in their defense. Today, we, the undersigned organizations, urgently call upon the conflicting parties and the international community to prioritize the rights and well-being of Yemeni children in accordance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Parties to the conflict should immediately cease all violations against children, including killing and maiming, child recruitment, sexual violence, abductions, and obstruction of access to humanitarian aid. They must refrain from attacks on and military use of hospitals and educational facilities. The international community should end impunity for violations perpetrated by the warring parties, engage local civil society organizations and victims of human rights violations, and advocate for the establishment of an international accountability mechanism to investigate all human rights violations in Yemen, including grave violations against children, to ensure accountability. Let us reaffirm our commitment to ensuring a brighter future for Yemeni children. By acting together, we can bring about positive change. #Justice4YemeniChildren #Justice4Yemen #ChildrensRights.
