Absolutely resonating with UNHCR's call to action. The staggering number of South Sudanese refugees underscores the severity of Africa's largest refugee crisis. What's often overlooked is the disproportionate impact on women and girls, who bear the brunt of conflict and displacement.
Having witnessed firsthand the plight of women and girls in northeastern Nigeria, where conflict has ravaged communities for years, I can attest to the devastating consequences. The cultural and traditional norms exacerbate their vulnerability, leading to early marriages, health issues like VVF, hunger, and exploitation.
It's heartbreaking to see how conflict disrupts the lives of these girls, robbing them of their childhood and potential. But amidst these challenges, one thing remains clear: peace is paramount. It's the cornerstone upon which we can rebuild shattered lives and communities.
Every girl deserves more than just survival; they deserve a chance to thrive. They deserve safety, education, healthcare, and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to society. And achieving this requires a collective effort to advocate for peace, support refugees, and address the root causes of conflict.
So, I Jagila Jantiku proudly stand with UNHCR in their mission to restore peace and dignity to refugees in South Sudan, Nigeria, and around the world. Let's amplify their voices and work tirelessly towards a future where every girl's dreams are within reach.
