Last week, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres announced my appointment as Executive Director of the UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) upon my election by the UN General Assembly. I feel extremely honoured to be the first person from the Latin American and Caribbean region to assume this position and appreciate the trust in my professional capacity. I'm impressed and enthusiastic about the good wishes received from all parts of the world - individuals, institutions, and my new colleagues from the United Nations system. I see that I am not embarking on this new journey alone, and it gives me even more confidence and strength to work hard and leverage impact. Lastly, I would like to express my profound gratitude for all the messages received and reaffirm my commitment to the urban agenda that has marked my trajectory over the last 20 years. Together, we will continue to advance sustainable urban development and improve the quality of life in cities and communities around the world. Finalmente se tendrá la mirada fuertemente Latinoamericana, donde la problematica de la extrema urbanidad se mezcla con la extrema desigualdad, en ambos rankeamos primeros. Esperemos que la llegada de Anaclaudia Rossbach profundice los caminos de mejora que se vienen realizando desde varias instituciones, pero fundamentalmente de los colectivos autogestionarios que construyen la ciudad todos los días! 💪
