The (603) Challenge is underway and gifts to the Sustainability Institute will support student changemakers from across UNH’s colleges who are eager to contribute to a better future. They’re preparing for careers of impact – contributing solutions for the environment, social justice, and equity. The Sustainability Institute is training students with critical hands-on learning experiences, to help them build skills that will fill the “green skills gap”, while also helping regional organizations advance sustainable practices. And when we hit our goal of 115 donors, $153,000 in additional funding for the Sustainability Institute will be unlocked thanks to our generous underwriters, UNH’s Sustainability Advisory Board, as well as the Josephine A. Lamprey Designated Fund at New Hampshire Charitable Foundation and the Larrea Family Foundation. “I’ve always been a passionate advocate for a sustainable future, and as a student at UNH I took full advantage of the Sustainability Institute’s programs. I can genuinely say that because of these experiences, I left my undergraduate with an abundance of meaningful work experience that allowed me to break into an exciting career in sustainability.” - George Anderson ‘22 #UNH603 Fiona Wilson Alexis Dwyer Kathryn Jerome George Anderson

"Amplifying Impact" Sustainability Report 2023 I'm delighted with the release of our ninth institutional sustainability report "Amplifying Impact". It's an institutional effort that celebrates our continuing global leadership in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings for the second year in a row. It takes Brittany Vermeulen and me months to bring this together and we love working with our colleagues - this year over 55 contributors from Curriculum, Operations, Research and Engagement in telling our story. While acknowledging our collaborative efforts, the report is also up front about the work still to be done addressing just transitions for a more sustainable future. As Sebastian Pfautsch GAICD reminds us: “Globally, only 12% of the SDGs are on track for 2030. We must dramatically increase our efforts to create just living conditions for life on our planet." #SDGs #Impact #WSU Kevin Dunn Dr Nicolene Murdoch GAICD PFHEA Nicky Morrison Duncan Ross Catherine Renshaw Freya MacMillan Professor Graciela Metternicht MAICD Michelle Catanzaro Michelle Ryan Amanda Third Dr Elizabeth Smith (PhD, GAICD) Associate Professor Ricky Spencer Roger Attwater Bill Parasiris Maryanne Dever Jo Byng Ian Sebastian Susan Page Christian Burden Ann Niddrie David Thompson Katie Hayes Katie Aguilera https://lnkd.in/g62-2gwB https://lnkd.in/g9pwsi_S

We are proud to share that Arizona State University has once again been named as #1 in the US and Top 10 globally for impact on the US Sustainable Development Goals. The Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings recognize university contributions to creating a future in which all people thrive on a healthy planet. Sun Devils strive for excellence in every endeavor, every day. It’s why – from innovation and sustainability to global impact – ASU is repeatedly ranked No. 1.
ASU is again named a global leader in sustainability — ranked No. 1 in the U.S. for the fifth year in a row by Times Higher Education Impact Rankings for our commitment to and alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, ahead of Michigan State University, Penn State University and MIT. Notably, ASU is: 🪸 No. 1 in the world for SDG 14, which addresses life below water. 🌆 No. 2 in the world for SDG 11, focused on sustainable cities. 🌿 No. 3 in the world for SDG 15, which explores life on land. 🇺🇸 No. 1 in the U.S. for 11 out of the 17 SDGs. “This updated ranking speaks to ASU’s unique ability to equip our large network of students with the skills needed in subjects like sustainability thinking, so that they can not only understand the challenges of our time, but feel informed and empowered to make an impact in their respective communities and future careers,” said Nancy Gonzales, executive vice president and university provost. Who says November is bleak – the sun shines brightly in the School of Environment Enterprise and Development, Faculty of Environment, University of Waterloo. In that spirit, I wanted to flex (which according to my boys is the new term for bragging) some accomplishments of people I am working with. The first is Juan Moreno Cruz (Associate Professor SEED), who co-authored the article, Food without agriculture, Nature and Sustainability. I had nothing to do with the article but my office is around the corner from his. David Billedeau (SUSM PhD candidate) published his third journal article emerging from his PhD research. The article examines the sincerity of corporate commitments to sustainability and the efficacy of global initiatives such as the SDGs in changing corporate behaviour. Spoiler alert: David found that corporations signaling a commitment to the SDGs, as well as those with UNGC membership, showed a lower community investment as a percentage of net profit after tax (CI/NPAT%) than their counterparts without these affiliations. You can access the article at https://lnkd.in/gUkukCUT Cameron McCordic’s team published results highlighting the Canadian SDG cities index in Frontiers in Sustainable Cities. Dr. Adil Rauf, the lead author, is a recent SUSM PHD grad (convocated in October!!!). Mohamed Dadir (PostDoc SEED) was the lead author of a policy report released this past Friday prepared for Environment and Climate Change Canada and NS government modelling the impacts and associated health costs of hot temperatures in four NS communities. In addition, he is the lead author of an article, Health-informed predictive regression for statistical-simulation decision-making in urban heat mitigation being considered for a Frontiers Planet Prize. Waris Ali (SEED visiting research scholar) published an article in the Journal of Applied Accounting examining the impact of firm-level CSR governance characteristics on the extent, quality, and comprehensiveness of CSR reporting. The article is a great example of departmental collaboration with contributions from Amr ElAlfy as well. Waris is also the lead author of a second paper just accepted in the journal Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management. The article examines the impact of sustainability governance attributes on comprehensive CSR reporting in a developing country setting.
