Thrilled to be in New York this week at the NGO CSW68 Forum with Be Girl on our INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS CONSORTIUM panel. While it has been a known issue for a long time, only in recent years has the World Economic Forum and other major players recognized the real cost of #periodpoverty globally, and countries as diverse as Scotland, New Zealand, and Botswana moved to provide free sanitary products either nationwide or via school distribution. To tackle the world's problems we need full agency for the world's women, and removing this barrier to their full involvement in education, general society, and the economy is a critical component. #humanrights #genderequality

Over 340 million women and girls will be living on less than $2.15 a day by 2030. Here are 5 ways to reduce poverty and enhance #GenderEquality: 1- Ensure access to quality jobs for women 2- Prevent discrimination in the workplace 3- Invest in care services to create jobs, such as provision of daycare and elderly care 4- Shift to sustainable economies that include women 5- End gender-based violence to create stable societies. Safe Steps welcomes the release of the work of the Women’s Economic Equality Taskforce’s 10-year plan to unleash the full capacity and contribution of women to the Australian economy. The taskforce, established by Katy Gallagher in 2022, has identified the systemic barriers that mean Australia is underutilising 50% of its economic potential. One of those barriers is family violence, with the Taskforce finding it is a factor in preventing women’s full participation in the Australian economy. To overcome this, they have recommended immediate action to develop a financial support program to enable women to leave violence and establish stable housing and require banks to develop free financial services for women escaping family violence.
