Throughout the country, many are celebrating #Juneteenth this Wednesday to commemorate independence for thousands of African Americans still enslaved in Texas 1865, a full two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.  The now federal holiday offers a time to reflect on a shared history from which we can learn much about how freedom is often a work in progress.
