Building good public transit, pedestrian throughways and connected spaces are only as useful to us as the culture is strong. While designing spaces that help to improve the infrastructural aspects of our community, we should also engage in conversations that can help us stimulate the cultural characteristics of a place. This helps to: 1. Create a unique sense of place, residents can be proud of 2. Give examples and create excitement around how the space can continue to be used. 3. Develop stronger ties with the present community with their historical roots. All of which help to create stronger social bonds and a deeper sense of belonging.

Community Development Specialist | Leveraging 7 Years in Policy Development for Sustainable Housing Justice | Creating Impactful Programs Rooted in Social Justice Values
Calling #housing #justice minded people to support the ongoing work of the Contra Costa County Housing Our Future #Coalition. We are #hiring a Coalition Coordinator! We are a coalition of #nonprofit leaders, #advocates, #organizers, and #publicsector staff in Contra Costa County. As a Coalition, we aim for: -A true mass movement of Contra Costa County residents that commands the human right to affordable housing, centering the voices and needs of low-income vulnerable residents, -And that tilts the political landscape of our County towards innovative housing development models that put people before profit; an expansion of tenant rights, resources, and power; meaningful and effectively-resourced policy and program implementation; and the treatment of housing as integral to our County’s public health, education, economic development, racial equity, and climate sustainability goals.
One of the most unexpected and exciting pieces of my Fellowship has been co-launching the Housing Our Future Coalition. Housing Our Future is a cross-sector group of Contra Costa County leaders commanding the human right to affordable housing. Our current focus is supporting the regional housing bond and shaping the bond implementation plan. We have secured funding for a Coalition Coordinator to continue convening and supporting this group post-Fellowship and are looking for a passionate leader and experienced bridge builder to take on this rewarding, important work. Please share widely and reach out to me with any questions!

How much worse can it get before everyone realises that our governments are not serving us. There are no solutions to fix this unimaginable mess in the current system. We have to think out of the box, and do something we have never done before - unite and cooperate. Only through unity and cooperation, and collaboration, can we achieve prosperity and abundance for all. The ONE SMALL TOWN initiative has been building this structure since 2005. We are ready. We are doing it, for ourselves and our families and our communities. There is no other solution available. So, join us. It's a beautiful feeling. Become a seed of consciousness in your community. Start by becoming a member of ONE SMALL TOWN, and tell everyone. The next few months will be critical in laying a strong global foundation of connected, and united communities across the world. Relationship Architect | Community Engagement Strategist | Driving Impactful Change via Data-Driven Policies
Reflecting on my Flight Home from Kansas City: Key Insights on Facilitating Community Engagement in Unfamiliar Cities As a Community Engagement practitioner, I've learned some invaluable lessons during my visit to Kansas City. Here are three crucial points I want to share: 1. **Embrace Local Culture and History:** Understanding the unique cultural and historical context of a city is crucial. It's not just about adapting your strategies; it's about respecting and integrating local values and traditions into your approach. This fosters trust and shows your genuine interest in the community. 2. **Leverage Local Networks and Leaders:** Collaboration is key. Identify and connect with local leaders and organizations. They have the grassroots knowledge and influence that can amplify your efforts. Building these partnerships not only enhances your impact but also ensures sustainability. 3. **Prioritize Listening Over Speaking:** The most powerful tool in community engagement is listening. Enter new communities with a learning mindset. Understand their needs, concerns, and aspirations. This approach not only enriches your understanding but also builds a foundation of mutual respect and collaboration. Why is this important? Engaging with communities, especially in unfamiliar settings, is more than a project—it's a commitment to fostering inclusive and empowered societies. These insights from Kansas City have reinforced my belief that effective community engagement can bridge gaps, inspire change, and create lasting impacts. #CommunityEngagement #LocalCulture #Collaboration #Listening #Inclusivity #Empowerment #KansasCityInsights ---

Our goal with the "Buy & Build Back Your Block" initiative is to raise the bar collectively and accelerate the pace of change within commercial real estate. Who's in?
Crains New York Business put out an article earlier this year on The Families Behind the Most Recognizable Buildings in New York. Highlights suggest New York is real estate, and the foundation of that real estate is in many cases families. Those cited with influence on the streetscape and how the city runs include the Dursts, Kushners, Silversteins and Goldman’s — but it got me thinking. Why Not Mine? Why Not Yours? Tasking our most influential BIPOC Professionals, Artists, Athletes & Entertainers to consider an investment alternative...buy back your old block! NYC and nationwide. Stay tuned for pending economic & community development initiatives by PRI-O-LEAU Development Group (PDG)
