UM Shore Regional Health's Stroke Center leadership celebrated Talbot County as a Stroke Smart County with a proclamation from the Talbot County Council. Led by Dr. Rena Sukhdeo Singh, efforts have focused on community stroke education during National Stroke Awareness Month. Their goal is to integrate stroke education into school curriculums and community hubs to empower early stroke recognition and care. The initiative underscores UM Shore Regional Health's commitment to quality stroke treatment and community wellness. That's a better state of care.

As May comes to a close, we reflect on National Stroke Awareness Month and the importance of continuing our efforts to educate and raise awareness. Strokes remain one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide, yet many strokes are preventable through lifestyle changes and early intervention. As we conclude this awareness month, let's remember to: 🧠 Recognize the signs and symptoms of a stroke. 🧠 Understand the importance of immediate medical attention. 🧠 Promote a healthy lifestyle to reduce stroke risk. 🧠 Support research and initiatives aimed at stroke prevention and recovery.❤️🩹 Even though the month is ending, our commitment to stroke awareness and prevention continues. Together, we can help save lives and improve outcomes for stroke survivors. Learn more about how you can contribute to stroke awareness and prevention at the American Heart Association. #StrokeAwarenessMonth #StrokePrevention

Supporting Life After Stroke! Life after stroke can vary greatly depending on individual circumstances and the effectiveness of rehabilitation. Several studies have explored different aspects of life after stroke, including outcomes, long-term predictors, and the role of various interventions. An important aspect that is often forgotten is Social activity and life satisfaction: Studies like Boosman et al. (2010) have shown that social activity contributes independently to life satisfaction three years post-stroke, highlighting the importance of social engagement in post-stroke life. 🤗 Stroke awareness and advocacy groups play an essential role in offering support to stroke survivors, caregivers, family, and friends. Built on friendships and fun, they are a safe and supportive space to try things again, to learn more about stroke and self-care, and to build your confidence as you rebuild your life after stroke. 👏 Let's recognize and appreciate the invaluable work of groups like : Stroke Foundation Heart & Stroke Stroke Association Irish Heart Foundation #StrokeSurvivor #LifeAfterStroke #StrokeRecovery #SupportGroups #StrokeAdvocacy #StrokeAwareness
