Our lives revolve around data. In fact, every platform is culling data on you in every way. Your watch and ring report your VO2, pulse, steps, and everything in between. We analyze, and we are analyzed as part of our daily lives. Data is a window into whatever you’re examining, but it’s not a solution, especially regarding stress and sleep. Our latest blog (Data is not a Solution to Stress and Sleep), which you can read here (Somulis.com/blog), shows that data can create anxiety. It demonstrated that devices that gather and provide information on sleep generate a fixation that exacerbates insomnia. One reason #Somulis.com exists is that there are ample data-gathering devices but not enough safe, effective, affordable, and convenient sleep management systems. Somulis was designed for Everyone, Everywhere, and at Anytime! So, if you are not sleeping as well as you like, give Somulis a try. It can help you Stop Stressing and Start Living!

New research suggests that sleep regularity is more important for health than sleep duration. 💤 While we've been told to aim for 7-8 hours of sleep per night, a recent study found that the consistency of our sleep patterns is more crucial for our well-being. 📈 People who maintain consistent sleep schedules, even if they don't hit the recommended 7-8 hours, are less likely to develop chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. 👏 A powerful health tip: prioritize a consistent bedtime and waking schedule, regardless of clocking in 7-8 hours. #publichealth #healthwellness #newresearch #sleephealth

I'm all about tracking data when it comes to health... BUT... Dr. Ellen Langer's latest book "The Mindful Body: Thinking our way to chronic health" may make you think twice about paying too much heed to your sleep rating instead of how you actually feel when you wake up. In an exploratory study Langer et al (2020) programmed bedside clocks to alter the amount of time the participants thought they’d sleep, irrespective of their actual sleep duration. When the clock was sped up so participants thought they’d slept for 8 hours but had actually only slept for 5 hours their reaction times were quicker compared to their performance when they knew they’d had only 5 hours of sleep! Conversely, when they slept for 8 hours but thought they’d only slept for 5 their performance was worse than when they had slept 8 hours. This exploratory study underscores how much our perception of how long we've slept, and not just the actual number of hours, matter. Read more here: DOI: 10.1016/j.jpsychores.2020.109992

Friday 15th March 2024 is World Sleep Day and the theme is Sleep Equity for Global Health. Sleep equity is when everyone, regardless of age, sex, gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, geographic location or socioeconomic status has an equal opportunity to get the amount and quality of sleep they need. A good night’s sleep is essential for physical, mental and overall wellbeing. Sleep quality is related to the duration, continuity and night-to-night regularity of bedtime and wake up routines. We offer MAD therapy treating people suffering from sleep apnoea and we support this equity by offering the right solution to the right patient at the right moment. #WorldSleepDay #SleepResearch Source: Vorster, A.P.A.; van Someren, E.J.W.; Pack, A.I.; Huber, R.; Schmidt, M.H.; Bassetti, C.L.A. "In today’s digital age, we tend to geek out over numbers, stats, graphs and smartwatches that measure all kinds of values related to our health. When it comes to your heart rate, those numbers often indicate how hard your heart is working to keep you healthy and alive. But what do those numbers mean exactly — and how do they change when you’re active versus at rest or asleep?" Find out how sleep affects your heart rate at https://cle.clinic/48K1Dc9. #SleepHealth #HeartHealth #HeartRate #ClevelandClinic #ChesapeakeCardiacCare
