Meet our Level Designer, Patrick! Why do you like working at Ultimate Studio and in the game industry? For why I like working at Ultimate, we have many talented people at the studio who can pump out good quality work in a short amount of time. I have to sometimes remind myself that I’m only playing a first pass. For why I like working in the game industry, my passion lies in creativity and pushing technological boundaries. There’s no other medium that can do it quite like games. What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone who is looking to get into the game industry? I can speak for Level/Game Design. You probably want to show employers in an interview your own personal projects. When it comes to working on your portfolio, don’t be ashamed to lower the scope. If the jobs you're applying for are ‘Level Design’, you don’t have to create a whole new game from scratch. Doing the art, gameplay, audio, programming, rigging, animation then to show your level design is way too much for one person! This is a good way to burn yourself out. You can stick to block outs or find existing assets, but of course you’ll mention what’s your work to recruiters. Your focus is to make things from scratch that are relevant to your discipline. What is the Ultimate way to game? The Ultimate way of gaming is to come into the office on Fridays and play our own games. There’s a lot of highly talented veterans on the team, so we’re always excited to see what they’re been tinkering all week. A new cool animation, a pretty VFX explosion, a funny new voice line, an amazing vista shot. You don’t know what you’re gonna get in the new build!

Game design is the act of deciding what a game should be. That's it. On the surface, its sounds too simple. But the the big question is, does game designers have to be computer programmers? No, they don't. It's just like a relationship between you and your ex, where you do not need to know anything about your ex, but your ex must know everything you are capable of . Sorry guys, lack of sleep. Let me rephrase that. It's like a relationship between a carpenter and an architect. Architect being a game designer and carpeneter is the programmer. An architect (game designer) does not need to know everything a carpenter (programmer) knows, but an architect (designer) must know everything, that the carpenter is capable of. So in short, anyone who makes decisions about how the game should be is a game designer. It's a role, not a person. So don't ask for gender selection when posting a job opening for a game designer... #gamedev

Have you worked with an exceptional Game Designer? if so, who? What makes a great game designer? 1. Creativity and Innovation: A Game Designer that brings original ideas and innovative gameplay mechanics to the table. This involves thinking outside the box and not being afraid to challenge conventional norms. 2. Understanding Player Psychology: A deep understanding of what motivates players, how they interact with game environments, and what makes a game compelling. 3. Technical Proficiency: While not every Game Designer needs to be a programming expert, a solid understanding of the technical aspects of game development is important. 4. Strong Communication and Teamwork Skills: Game design is rarely a solo endeavor. Being able to effectively communicate ideas and work collaboratively with programmers, artists, sound designers, and other team members is essential. 5. Passion for Games: A great Game Designer has a genuine love for games and an eagerness to learn. This means playing a wide variety of games, staying updated with industry trends, and constantly seeking new knowledge and skills.

Hi everyone! For the upcoming networking jam from the Indie Game Academy in January: https://lnkd.in/eRQh9MpY, our small team, Aezephel, need you! We are three artists who are currently working on a small visual novel and we aim to hone our motivation with this jam. Two of us already experienced a first Game Jam so we have an idea of the challenge ahead of us. We were part of the Elysium Team for Helios Betrayal: https://lnkd.in/ecRdgjyy (Beware that you will need a controller to test it and that we didn’t have the time to balance the last two levels) Who are we? • Ennrael. Team Leader, Narrative Designer, 3D artist. A cat who loves stories, organizing things and finding solutions to problems. Portfolio: https://www.aezephel.net/ • Shinza, Game/Narrative Designer, Unreal Engine Developer (beginner). Student in Video Games. Loves dark stories or those with a lot of symbolism inside. Portfolio : https://lnkd.in/eRKGDxzN (not up to date at all, I'll try to fix it in the next weeks) • Solaki, 2D artist. An illustrator and graphic designer who loves everything to do with galaxies and fantasy ! Porfolio (or rather the social media) : https://lnkd.in/eX8tAgjZ For this Jam, we're interested in developing a game with minimalist, easy-to-manage 3D graphics, we already have an additional 3D artist who joined us from another post: https://lnkd.in/ePt_3VBG We are still seeking another Unreal Engine Developer who possesses a more solid and competent understanding of said engine so that Shinza can assist him/her/them. What is our style? We generally gravitate towards mature and serious themes in our projects. Our passion lies in crafting intricate universes infused with elements of magical realism, blending wonder with various genres like horror, fantasy, or science fiction. This complex yet wondrous approach is what defines our creative direction. If that’s your style too or if you know someone who can fit in, we would love to have your help :)

Aspiring Technical Game Designer | Crafting memorable storytelling experiences with the creative potential of video games
What is a Game Designer? What do these folks do? I myself didn't know any answers for these questions when I started making games in 2017. After some time making games, some grinding, I leveled up a few times. Today, in the stage I am in my career and journey, I was writing about one game I developed. That was when I managed to craft some paragraphs that hopefully could give some insights for aspiring game designers. I share in this post some of these paragraphs. Here we go: 🕹🕹🕹 Game Designers embody the importance of pillars such as "living for others", "being imagination-driven" and "telling tales that really matter". For this reason, we love what we do, making games for the sake of better people, and a better world. 🧙♂️ Whenever in doubt ... Never forget to live for others; Never forget to be driven by imagination and never forget to tell tales that really matter. This will make you "a best Game Designer". And you will certainly make the best games ever. 🕹 🕹🕹

Hello connection , Here is a breif information on game development Game development is the process of creating video games. It involves various stages, including concept and design, coding, art and animation, sound design, testing, and finally, release. Game developers can work independently or as part of a team within a game development studio. The industry has seen significant growth, with various tools and platforms available for developers to create games for consoles, PCs, mobile devices, and virtual reality platforms. It's a dynamic field that requires creativity, technical skills, and teamwork.Certainly! Here's a more detailed breakdown of the game development process: 1. **Concept and Design**: This stage involves coming up with the initial idea for the game, including its story, characters, mechanics, and overall gameplay experience. Game designers often create documents such as game design documents (GDDs) to outline these concepts in detail. 2. **Pre-production**: During this phase, the game's concept is fleshed out further. This may include creating concept art, storyboards, and prototypes to visualize and test different aspects of the game. 3. **Production**: This is where the bulk of the development work takes place. Programmers write the code that makes the game function, artists create the visual assets such as characters, environments, and animations, and sound designers work on music and sound effects. This stage involves constant iteration and refinement as the game takes shape. 4. **Testing and Quality Assurance (QA)**: Once the game is playable, it undergoes rigorous testing to identify and fix bugs, optimize performance, and ensure that it meets the design specifications and quality standards. 5. **Polish**: During this phase, final adjustments and refinements are made to the game to enhance its overall quality and polish. This may include fine-tuning gameplay mechanics, improving visuals and audio, and optimizing performance. #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking

Currently, i have been working on a personal project, a third-person exploration survival based game. On an hiking expedition gone wrong, you get seperated from the team and find yourself in a dense forest with no maps or resources. The ultimate objective of the player is to find a way out of this dense forest, as well as collect food resources in order to stay alive and not starve to death. I created this project primarily to showcase my level design skills, alongwith my game design, development, UI, video editing, lighting and more. This video showcases a small part of the game. The game is still under development, which is why i still haven't created a proper link for the game. If you wanna playtest the game, please go into my projects section, which will guide you to my google drive, from which, after downloading you can install and playtest it. Any feedback is welcome. PS: I used multiple free third-party assets in this game as i primarily wanted to showcase my level and game design skills. . . . . . This is a perfect example of trying to make games without any experience 😬 Would like to see your opinions on it! (was *quite* 😅 a hot topic in the Spanish gamedev community this week) Just saw this Fortnite UEFN map creator "offer" and... Had to share it. Poor summer child... 🥹 "the powers need to be coded this project shouldn't take more than 10 hours." "Fixed price $500" 🚨🚨🚨 WARNING WARNING 🚩🚩🚩 Ok, ok... Let's jump into the analysis! First of all, this may be an innocent mistake. Just learn from it, and move on, no hard feelings towards the poster. 1- The map description isn't so bad. It's vague and shows it's just an idea thrown into the wind. But could be done. It's not the next Clash Royale, it's ok. 2- 10 hours!? 😬 That would be VERY optimistic if you only used class devices and granters. But these skills aren't that... 3- Taking a look at the skills... Problems begin 😢 Most require a technical analysis before being developed, as it's not just tweaking a couple of code lines. 4- So, for now, we need a day to review the design and prepare basic technical documentation (don't wanna face bugs without it). 5- Getting back to the abilities. Can all of them be done in a timely manner? If not, that's some extra hours on game design finding appropriate substitutes. 6- We need logos for the abilities. Add me another day for a designer. 7- Now, getting to mechanics and coding... 5-7 days? (if no bugs happen). 8- Someone has to create a nice environment, even if it's simple. Add an extra 1-2 days. 9- Let's be optimistic and add only 2 days of debugging with so many mechanics. 10- The required roles would be: producer, graphical designer, mechanics programmer, and environment artist. 11- So we have around 7-9 days of work at a minimum with a team of 2-3, with a clear bottleneck on mechanics and coding that could take that time over the two weeks. If it's a solo dev, 2 weeks are guaranteed. 12- Now, is doing this for $500 worth it? Highly doubt it. 🧐 What's your take on this? 🧐 If you want to bring your brand, creators, and/or experiences into Fortnite, contact me.
