MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company controls or participates in several container terminals in Italy including Genoa, La Spezia, Leghorn, Naples, Giota Tauro, Ancona, Venice, Trieste, and Rome Civitavecchia. This agreement will birng together substantial #intermodal capabilities to the extensive marine terminals nodes. A new company jointly owned by Mercitalia Logistics (51%) and MEDLOG (49%), an MSC Group company specializing in intermodal transport and logistics will design, build and operate new cargo terminals at sites controlled by the two groups in Italy. MSC has already substantial experience in integrating and operating combined ports intermodal network following acquisition (2022) of the Bollore Africa, the French #logistics company’s network of ports and railways in Africa. Portugal is set to construct a new international airport in Alcochete, located across the River Tagus from Lisbon. The decision follows years of debate regarding the ideal location. The chosen site, approximately 25 miles east of Lisbon, is currently a military airfield. Expected to be operational by 2034, this project aims to replace the existing Humberto Delgado Airport. While the new airport is being constructed, the existing one will be expanded. Maersk isolation intensifies as MSC and Zim deepens cooperation MSC and Zim have announced on 6 September 2023 a new operational cooperation agreement covering the trades between the Indian subcontinent with the East Mediterranean, the East Mediterranean with Northern Europe, and services connecting East Asia with Oceania. The cooperation is expected to be expanded when the current 2M-Zim collaboration is dissolved from January 2025, with MSC poised to further extend its current slot sale agreement with Zim on the Asia-PNW route to cover the Asia-US East Coast and Asia-Med trades. These moves will further isolate Maersk who will be left without any alliance partners on the Transpacific and Asia-Europe routes that could curtail its network coverage and access to incremental vessel tonnage. Overall Maersk capacity operated has shrunk by 3% since 2022 compared to Zim and MSC that have grown by 33% and 24% respectively. DP World boosts European trade with €130M investment in #Romania🇷🇴 - Cargo flows expected to increase by around two million tonnes per annum, boosting trade, economic growth and opportunity in Europe - Links between the Black, North and Adriatic seas with mainland Europe set to be transformed - Investments mark 20 years of DP World in Romania, with the business predicting it will become an increasingly important hub for European trade DP World opens three major new sites in Romania, providing a significant boost to the country’s growing status as a key hub of European trade and enabling economic growth throughout the region. Constanta, the largest container port on the Black Sea, is now home to two new facilities following a €65 million investment: a 5-hectares ‘project' cargo terminal for heavy, large and complex cargo, and a new ‘roll-on, roll-off’ (RO-RO) terminal that will handle up to 80,000 vehicles per year at its peak. A further €50 million will be invested in a new multi-transport platform in Constanta that will open in 2025.
