Ready for Keeper’s summit 2024? Gianluca Tomei, Technical Director of Knorr-Bremse Rail Systems Italia, will be one of the speakers in the panel dedicated to DAC during Keeper’s summit 2024 organized by International Union of Wagon Keepers (UIP) and ASSOFERR. Under the Europe's Rail Joint Undertaking initiative, Knorr-Bremse is working to perfect the enabler for digital rail freight, the Digital Automatic Coupler (DAC Type 5), as well as a package of smart solutions for interoperable, automated digital freight trains. The EU Green Deal aims to triple European rail freight traffic by 2050 – a goal that can only be achieved by making rail freight faster and more flexible. Digitalization has the greatest potential both for streamlining labor-intensive train preparation processes and for managing and operating trains. #weareknorrbremse #railways

  🚆 UIRR at #TRA2024  : Too little for intermodal freight transport UIRR was at the Transport Research Arena 2024 to gain insights into ongoing #research and #development projects for passenger and goods transportation.  We seized the opportunity to showcase the #EDICT project, highlighting its pivotal role in addressing major challenges in digital interoperability of Combined Transport. Additionally, we were there supporting the presentations of ReMuNet Project and #ESEP4FREIGHT projects in which UIRR is also an active partner. Yet, we couldn’t help but notice the lack of intermodal freight related projects, particularly in the rail sector. Freight Intermodality must remain at the forefront to keep the pace of innovation. ⭐️Let’s realise DAC! ⭐️ What is standard in passenger rail transport should also become standard in freight transport – automated coupling. ➡️First Movers 🇩🇪🇦🇹 and 🇨🇭 are prepared to invest. Volker Wissing, Vera Hofbauer and Federal Counsellor Albert Rösti (Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communication, Switzerland) confirmed this at the ITF - International Transport Forum 2024 in Leipzig. That is a strong signal the rail industry in Germany very much welcomes. ➡️Europe 💡As the benefits of the Digital Automatic Coupling (DAC) can only be realized if it is used throughout Europe, a European initiative to introduce the DAC is needed in addition to national commitment. Everyone agrees on this. They also agree that it is possible to set up a European implementation management system equipped with various sources of funding. 🇦🇹Constanze Bannholzer, 🇪🇺Giorgio Travaini and Dr. Libor Lochmann (Ambassador for digital automatic coupler in SEE/CEE) elaborated on solutions in the subsequent discussion. ➡️Next We will continue the exchange on solutions at InnoTrans 2024.
