Rector Francesco Billari and Giovanni Malagò, President of Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026 and the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI ), have signed a framework #agreement that includes a wide range of initiatives, starting with the new #ExecutiveMaster in Business of Events (EMBE) at SDA Bocconi. The collaboration stems from a mutual interest in leveraging the upcoming #MilanCortina2026 #OlympicGames to create initiatives that extend beyond sports. This is an excellent opportunity to combine strengths in education, research, and community engagement to benefit leaders in the sports, entertainment, and exhibition industries. In this interview, Professor Dino Ruta focuses on various aspects of the agreement. What are the key aspects of the agreement between Bocconi and Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026, including its scope, concrete initiatives like the Executive Master, the main research components, and the advantages for both Bocconi and Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026? Three main initiatives are part of this agreement: Bocconi will #coordinate studies on the economic, social and environmental impacts of the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympics in synergy with other universities and entities from the local areas affected by the games; the launch of the executive post-experience #program across five cities (Lausanne, Milan, Paris, Riyadh and Rome); and support for identifying talents to join the Olympic organizational staff in various roles. What are the main aspects of the agreement regarding research? Bocconi will produce IOC-requested reports following OECD guidelines, focusing on the legacy projects of the Italian Winter Olympics, and will implement data collection and dissemination strategies. Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026 will facilitate exchanges and discussions between Bocconi, its staff, the IOC and other Olympic stakeholders, including the OECD and the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee. This agreement aligns with Bocconi's #thirdMission to engage with local communities and institutions, aiming to provide concrete data on the Olympic impacts to contribute to international impact measurement standards by the OECD and IOC, and reinforcing Bocconi's learning-oriented approach and collaboration with top international institutions.

Our respected keynote speakers have just confirmed their titles and abstracts! @Jeroen Huisman presents “How are we doing? Reflections on higher education research” on Tuesday, 5 September, at the 45th annual EAIR Forum in Linz.    Jaroen, professor of Higher Education at the Centre for Higher Education Governance, Ghent University, shared this abstract with us: The interest in our field of research is growing in many ways: the number or researchers increases, our journals become more voluminous and higher education continues to be of key concern to our policy-makers (at least they say so …). Growth, however, does not necessarily mean progress, despite many observers mentioning the healthy state of our field of research. The talk will celebrate some positive developments, such as the plurality of methodological and theoretical voices. But we also need to critically consider our “achievements”. The following themes will be reflected upon: the use of theory in higher education research, methodological progress in our field, the use of higher education research by policy-makers and practitioners, and – time allowed – the broader infrastructure within which higher education research is carried out.
