𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 Here's why verified professional references stand as the gold standard in any hiring process: 1. Validation of Expertise: Technical proficiency is non-negotiable when overseeing large-scale projects. Verified references provide employers with a firsthand account of the candidate's expertise in planning, scheduling, and executing maintenance events or capital projects. These references offer concrete examples of a candidate's ability to navigate challenges, make strategic decisions, and deliver results in similar contexts. 2. Insight into Soft Skills and Leadership Abilities: While technical skills are essential, successful professionals must also possess strong soft skills and leadership qualities. Professional references offer insights into the candidate's interpersonal dynamics, communication style, problem-solving approach, and ability to motivate and lead teams effectively. 3. Confirmation of Reliability and Integrity: In industries where trust and reliability are paramount, verified references test a candidate's character and work ethic. Employers need assurance that the individuals they hire for roles in planning, scheduling, and controlling major maintenance events and capital projects are dependable, ethical, and accountable. Who will you choose to stand with you to answer these three key questions? Young Engineer : I started my career as a site engineer and then moved into project planning. For the last 8 years I have worked only for contractors or subcontractors in EPC. Now I want to switch to client side. The main reason is that I am fed up of working for 6 days a week and long hours per day. I am hoping that working in client side will be better for my future. Please share your suggestions Me : See, It is good to work in the Client side. But you need to think beyond the reason of “Long working week and hours” for the switch. Depending on the organisation, even in Client side there may be often requirements and demands to work extended hours/days. When you are looking at the bigger benefits, for example your focus can grow horizontally in the project life cycle and vertically in management and governance. The project you are currently working on as a contractor could become a one line item in your portfolio of responsibilities. Many things which you earlier couldn’t comprehend start making sense. Because you will zoom out of current nature of work. However, it brings challenges as well , For example – Due to changing dynamics at the top, your priorities, responsibilities may change frequently leaving you confused and frustrated. People have spent months and even years before projects actually began, until that time these were initiatives, options etc. which may not look good on the CV. Having said this, if you keep an open mind for learning and experimenting everything which comes your way, it will absolutely benefit in the long run. Young Engineer : Thank you for your valuable suggestion. This is helpful to look at it in a broad way. I will consider these challenges as opportunities for learning and keep an open mind which will surely benefit me in the long term Me : All the Best on your future endeavors #projectcontrols #projectmanagement
