My journey at L & S has been a rich tapestry woven with experiences that seamlessly blend challenge and excitement. Nearly 19 years ago, I embarked on this voyage within the organization, greeted by a multitude of growth prospects that I eagerly embraced. These opportunities have served as nourishment for my knowledge and a canvas for my experiences to flourish. From my modest beginnings as a Junior Draftsman, I’ve steadily advanced through the ranks to attain the role of Senior Draftsman. Today, standing as the head of the Drafting department, I am profoundly appreciative of the unswerving faith that my company has vested in me As the head of the department, my role revolves around efficiently managing the resources under my purview to lead my team in delivering a product and service of the utmost quality and accuracy, always striving to exceed the expectations set by our clients. Among the various aspects of my job, my favourite part undoubtedly lies in sharing the wealth of knowledge I've accumulated over the years. Witnessing my colleagues grow and evolve as professionals through this knowledge-sharing process is incredibly rewarding. When I reflect on the core values that define my approach to work, I find that "Ownership" resonates with me the most. I take personal responsibility for the tasks at hand and drive myself to ensure their successful completion. To newcomers entering the fold, the best piece of advice I can offer is to embrace a proactive stance. Don't hesitate to seek guidance from seasoned colleagues and absorb as much knowledge as you can. This approach not only accelerates your learning curve but also fosters a collaborative and dynamic work environment. While my colleagues may know a lot about me, there's one aspect that remains less apparent: my passion for building things from the ground up. From crafting shelves and desks to assembling speaker boxes, I thoroughly enjoy the process of creating functional items from scratch, a skill that often surprises those around me, and I do believe that it is something that I’m good at. Engineer turned Founder We find, develop and recruit engineers that fuel the growth of the manufacturing sector. Founder of TNEC (The Northern Engineers Community). Host of The Engineering Futures Podcast.
Have you ever known that you could do something if you were given a chance to prove yourself? I have been asking people 'The Northern Engineers Community' what they feel is the most important thing a person needs to be successful in a job. The overwhelming response was someone with a 'good attitude and a desire to learn'. Not experience, or qualifications, or expertise in a certain CAD package, or knowledge of specific standards, or familiarity with quality assurance processes. All these are useful to have, no one can deny that, but ultimately they can all be learnt. People are capable of amazing things and if the right ones are given a chance to shine and that's where the gold is. When I find a great person and they tell me their story, their aspirations and motivations, then I know in that moment they are capable. It's my duty to then find an employer that's open to discussing how they might fit in their organisation. And guess what? There's lots of great people out there looking for a chance to shine. Is it time to stop being so rigid with what your expectations are for certain roles? Do you believe a good attitude is the driver for success? #peoplepower #careeropportunities #engineeringrecruitment

Hey everyone! As a recruiter, I have had the opportunity to work with professionals from different fields. And I must say, one type of candidate that always impresses me is a structural engineer. Why, you may ask? Well, let me tell you. Structural engineers possess a unique set of skills that make them an asset to any team. From problem-solving to critical thinking, they have it all. Not to mention their attention to detail and ability to handle complex projects with ease. But what I truly admire about structural engineers is their passion for their work.
