How have you adapted to changes in your industry? ✏️ Embrace them and find ways to sustain (oh well, I'm the same with any other working peeps that I have commitments and bills). The best way is that in between the changes, we have to grow so you won't be overwhelmed by the changes and worse feel lost especially at an age that you need to update resume. I've experience at least few cycles of oil price down from the year I graduated (can't find #processengineer job), contract terminated in a country many miles from home (#project was canned!), worrying day in day out if the day I step into the office would be my last (due to #mergersandacquisitions, client/ partner suddenly decided to terminate the #serviceagreement, #skill no longer applicable, #pandemic and many more). Self reminder to keep growing and to learn consistently some other skills, other than the one you knew, the one you studied in and the one you have worked all this while!

I don't recall why I wrote the following, but it defined me then and now. I am more than Oil and Gas. For those that that don’t know me my name is Jaime Mendietta. I started in the oil and gas industry in 2011, but that doesn’t define who I am. On my resume you won’t see that I have a love for learning about technology. You won’t see that I enjoy sharing my knowledge and I prefer to lead teams. On my resume you won’t see that I spent the previous seven years after leaving the Marines learning all about telecommunication. I have made sacrifices as I pursue a career. My family has sacrificed me being gone for weeks and months at a time. These tailored resumes are exhausting. Tailoring resumes to show that one has multiple years of experience to reflect Training and Development of teams, Management experience, Safety, Technology, etc. Yet I know I must continue to push to be better today than I was yesterday. All while working on finishing up my degree (update Completed 2023). I am more than my resume shows. #selfawareness #selfimprovement #strivingforexcellence #family #marine

5- Update Your Resume and LinkedIn Profile: Tailor your resume to highlight the skills and experiences that are relevant to project engineering. Also, ensure that your LinkedIn profile reflects your career transition goals and showcases your engineering expertise. 6- Seek Mentorship: Consider finding a mentor who is an experienced project engineer. They can provide guidance, share their experiences, and help you navigate the transition. 7- Apply for Entry-Level Project Engineer Positions: Start applying for entry-level project engineer positions or roles that require some project management responsibilities. Your O&M experience can still be an asset, especially if it involved managing projects or teams to some extent. 8- Prepare for Interviews: Practice answering common interview questions for project engineering roles. Emphasize your problem-solving abilities, leadership potential, and your adaptability in transitioning from O&M to project management. 9- Demonstrate Transferable Skills: During interviews and in your cover letter, highlight how your O&M experience has equipped you with skills that can benefit a project engineering role, such as attention to detail, technical expertise, and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues. 10- Show Enthusiasm and Commitment: Convey your genuine interest in transitioning to a project engineering role. Employers appreciate candidates who are motivated and committed to learning and growing in their new roles. 11- Be Patient and Persistent: Transitioning to a new role may take time and multiple job applications. Stay persistent and keep learning throughout the process. Remember that your years of experience as an O&M engineer can be a valuable asset in a project engineering role, as you may have a deep understanding of the systems and processes involved in engineering projects.
