“For the next decade, GPUs are going to be the core of AI infrastructure. And GPUs consume 10 to 15 times the amount of power per processing cycle than CPUs do. They’re very energy intensive.” We can hope and wish or we can produce more energy, which will keep power intensive technologies running reliably? #ai #energy #electricity #infrastructure https://lnkd.in/gvPBYFkE

#truly #scalable #qubit #platform Demonstrating a medium range interconnect between qubits is key to achieving the huge promise that silicon spin qubits hold. In our innovative solution to this challenge, the electrons that form our qubits are physically moved on the chip in our shuttling architecture[1] as schematically shown in the video. The beginning of the animation shows the type of device that is now state of the art in our experiments, with a reservoir from which electrons are loaded into the shuttling device and coherently moved to different sites. In recent years, our team has shown how this can be achieved, laying the theoretical groundwork [2] and experimentally demonstrating the movement of electrons[3] over distances of up to 10µm[4] and spin coherent shuttling over 560nm[5]. These results pave the way for a #truly #scalable #qubit #platform based on #silicon #spin #qubits. As one of the very few bootstrapped startups in the field of quantum computing, ARQUE Systems GmbH will work with Infineon Technologies to drive the commercialization of the entire system from quantum processor to control electronics and plans to bring a 25-qubit system to market by 2027. Well said Neil Hand of Siemens EDA: “It comes down to being more efficient in the design,” said Neil Hand, director of marketing at Siemens EDA. “You can look at any algorithm. There are orders of efficiency. The most inefficient approach from a power perspective is to run the raw code on a general-purpose processor and let it crank away — and toast some marshmallows above the CPU because it’s going to get very warm.” GPUs & CPUs are highly inefficient for AI inference applications. https://lnkd.in/gFZCy2Ay

Quantum Juice May Never Deplete Theoretical "quantum batteries" could revolutionize energy storage if they function as proposed. Rather than degrading over time like today's lithium-ion packs, these devices may retain full charge indefinitely. Quantum batteries exploit quantum effects to rapidly uptake power wirelessly through an electromagnetic field and hollow metal tube. This wireless charging circumvents energy loss issues plaguing portable electronics. Normally, repeated charging/discharging cycles cause chemical breakdown and capacity fade in conventional batteries. But quantum batteries interface with electromagnetic fields on a subatomic level, avoiding particle-level degradation. One proposal involves trapping ultracold atoms or photons within a superconducting material, drawing power from outside magnetic/electric oscillations. If disturbances don't disrupt quantum states, charge could persist withoutBound energy replenishment. While largely theoretical, some experiments have had success charging quantum emitters remotely. If scaled, quantum batteries could revolutionize industries from electric vehicles to mobile devices by removing time limits on power. Further research aims to boost efficiency and connectivity over distance. But quantum energy storage offers hopes of juice that may never depletion, redefining how we power autonomous machines large and small. #Quantum #SRED #RD #funding #innovation #Futuretech #JonIrwin https://lnkd.in/gCW_ABiD
