Paramount Pictures was stupid to drop SEGA! In the 1960s, way before SEGA was into home console business, SEGA was a huge arcade business. Gulf and Western, who had Paramount under them bought SEGA in 1969, and merged it with Paramount. However, following the video game crash of 1983 Paramount, just like Warner, cuts off it’s association with video game business. This was a huge mistake. For one of the original founders bought back SEGA for just $38 million, in 1984. NDA this, NDA that... For someone who just can't keep their mouth shut it's hard not being able to go into the details of what makes this achievement truly special.   I can say, however, that seeing how things are moving in the industry from the inside makes you dizzy. Some talk about building the plane while you fly it. Well, this year it felt like the plane also had to be invented, drawn, designed, and tested while you were up in the air.   And still, video games have shown to be as refreshing as ever. I personally feel the focus shifting back into deep, emotionally complex stories. Well, maybe I'm just getting old and can't play competitive games anymore. I like to think that's not the case and that prime storytelling is back to being close to developers' and publisher's hearts again. Just look at this year's winners (and their cultural impact!) and tell me if I'm wrong.   And so, as narrative takes the spotlight, good localization becomes an even more vital necessity for game creators. From expansion to standalone: Go behind the scenes of Assassin's Creed Mirage 🔎 Starting as a DLC idea for Valhalla, Mirage transformed into a standalone prequel, inviting players to dive into the enigmatic world of Basim, a Hidden One. Ubisoft Bordeaux, steering the helm, faced unique challenges in balancing modernity with legacy. As shared at this year's Game Developers Conference, not every idea made it through; dogs, sandstorms, and even a monkey companion were concepts left on the cutting room floor. This looks very exciting ... and could open up a whole lot more opportunity for UNREAL artists for sure. Disney is investing $1.5 billion for an equity stake in Fortnite and Unreal Engine maker Epic Games as part of a broader partnership to create a new Disney gaming universe. The companies plan to create an expansive and open games and entertainment universe. I would say they’re building a metaverse, if the word weren’t so overused late and out of favor with some. (They didn’t actually use that word). Bob Iger, CEO of Disney, announced the investment in an interview with CNBC today. The companies will collaborate on a new games and entertainment universe that will further expand the reach of beloved Disney stories and experiences.
