🌐✨ UB recently hosted the 18th International AAAI Conference on Web and Social Media, a pivotal gathering for AI research and its societal impacts. Over 300 experts convened to explore diverse topics—from Reddit's influence on mental health to the dynamics of extremist groups on social platforms. Associate Professors Erdem Sariyuce and Kenny Joseph organized the event, held at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, spotlighting UB's longstanding leadership in AI research. Joseph, who also serves as Associate Director of AI and society in the Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at UB, emphasized: "We're leveraging AI and modern social theory to navigate the vast data of social platforms and understand their societal implications."
