UATX founding faculty Boris Fishman's review of Aleksandr Skorobogatov's novel "Russian Gothic" was published Saturday in The New York Times. "The Soviet-Afghan war comes up only once in RUSSIAN GOTHIC, a slim novel by the Belarus-born Aleksandr Skorobogatov that first appeared in 1991 and has just been published in translation in the United States. But that single, radioactive reference transforms our experience of the story from a private disturbance to a commentary on a nation." https://lnkd.in/es9h3j3A

This book is an absolute "must read" if you want to understand what is happening in the world right now, how Russia became a true fascist dictatorship and how it, together with its allies, is trying to destroy democracy around the world. First when we realize what is happening it is possible to fight it. https://lnkd.in/dyVB8k_T

I am very happy that our issue is finally out! Many thanks to the editors, reviewers and the publishing team. My contribution delves into the heart of social antagonisms in the evolving authoritarian landscape of Russia. Using the approaches of visual biopolitics and post-structuralism, it seeks to identify and analyse the attitudes of Russians towards the war in Ukraine. Focusing on the massive phenomenon of 'Z-tification' in the spring of 2022 and the underground resistance to it, it examines the patterns of social conformity as well as the political impact of cultural subversion as a tool for challenging official hegemony.

We know how that worked out for Hitler. The interview further exemplifies what a revisionist view of history this autocratic thug maintains. https://lnkd.in/eyvMA_r9

Revisit this Q&A with Katie Stallard, author of “Dancing on Bones: History and Power in China, Russia, and North Korea." "If you removed all references to history tomorrow, would those regimes stand? I think so. But in terms of building resilience and making the regime more secure and making it less brittle, less fragile, I think the more you can also embed and draw on these popular ideas and some of the population buys in — even if it’s not a majority — it makes the regime more secure, more resilient." https://lnkd.in/dGMGWeq2

Meaningful Silence is better than meaningless Words No documents can tell us more than what the author of the document thought, what he thought had happened, what he ought to happen, or perhaps only what he wanted others to think he thought. Which means to know that you know is to know that you know nothing. However, knowledge can only be acquired through struggle and if you want to know the taste of pear eat it. If you want to know how to make a revolution make a revolution. Thus, let me tell you that "Revolution" is not the same as inviting people to dinner, or writing an essay or painting a picture or doing a needy work, but we fight vehemently without holding back. Therefore, War is a continuation of diplomacy or a continuation of politics and war is a politics of bloodshed and politics is war without a bloodshed, but war maybe compare to a commerce and battle to a transaction. Let's strive to be peacemaker in our own lives golden flashes.
