Is the US a Constitutional Republic or a Democracy? Below are the results of a one week poll I ran on LinkedIn from 01/02/2024 through 01/09/2024. As you can see there were only 30 people who participated in the poll -- I thought there would be much more. **************************************** What is the type of federal government in the United States of America -- "Democracy" or "Constitutional Republic"? I am grateful and thankful to live in this wonderful country, and I appreciate and respect all other American citizens, all ~336 million of us. Thank you for answering the poll, and Happy New Year! The #Republican failure to act as leaders of our country in the US House of Representatives by not doing EVERYTHING in their power to get and keep a Speaker is effectively tying America's hands at what is perhaps the most consequential in time in the world in recent history. They would rather display their ineptitude over and over with repeated contenders and repeated votes, as if they were showing off. THESE ARE THE PEOPLE SOME OF YOU VOTED FOR. We need to do better. We need to talk to each other. We need to disagree better, without destroying each other. We need to be the best people we can be, and elect people who will do the job of compromise, which is the job all elected officials' signed up for. If you refuse to compromise or talk to the other side, you are in the wrong business. Stop voting for extremists in primaries. Stop voting for narcissists who go into politics only for the power or corrupt enrichment. We can all do better.

What we are seeing is that the public are waking up to the threat of far-right policies and government, which is often built upon lies, threats, corruption and illegal activities. The democracies of Europe understand the importance of freedom, having spent centuries spilling their blood to protect it. No-one living in a free nation in Europe wishes to become trade it for the Russian model. The US however, it is not so clear - they do not have the history of Europe or had to live with the physical scars or fear that Europeans do. The current American population have taken their freedom as a right, not as a gift, and this is a real concern for the state of the nation. Either way, Europe will remain free and I think we are starting to see European nations source other means of enhancing their defence capabilities and not always relying on American weaponry. Going forward, European Defence Industry needs to work collaboratively on a six-step plan to build its freedom from the US and secure the defence of Europe, should America become a threat: 1. Develop a Joint European Defence Industry framework for collective security; 2. Restock European military with European equipment, replacing US capabilities and technology; 3 Develop a cross European logistical capability to support the development of a European Defence Industry; 4. Develop a European Space & Information Defence Industry framework to provide geo-locating and satellite comms capabilities, removing the reliance on US technology; 5. Start undercutting American Defence Industry sales within the old European trading partners; and 6. Start winning global contracts, increasing the European share and decreasing the US, China and Russian markets.

A little political humor for anyone still in the mood.... Tomorrow we celebrate Declaration of Independence 🇺🇲. The founding document of the United States, was approved by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, it announced the separation of 13 North American British colonies from Great Britain. Did you know the consituation was written in 1787, ratified in 1788, and in operation since 1789. The United States Constitution is the world's longest surviving written charter of government. Its first three words; "We the People" affirm that the government of the United States exists to serve its citizens. As a kid I had to memorize the preamble "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." What is something you remember to this day from your history class?

Leap Years are to allow for the fact it takes us very slightly longer than 365 days to orbit the sun and so we have to make an adjustment in order to keep our seasons regular. Did you Know that some critical adjustments were made to the States Assembly in Leap Years? In 1856 deputies were brought into the States for the first time, with one deputy from each country parish and three from town. Then in 1948 Jurats were replaced as States members by 12 Senators. Now, of course, we have only deputies and constables. #Politics #StatesAssembly
