❗ Chicken Market Update ❗ ▪ The chicken market has been on a steady rise for the entire year. This is due to a few factors involving both supply and demand. ▪ On the demand side, chicken is still inexpensive compared to beef so more consumers are turning to it at the retail level. ▪ Also, just flip on the TV during any sporting event and you will see every few commercials advertising wings, chicken sandwiches, tendies, and even thighs (think Chipotle). ▪ Supply has not kept up and has been further hindered by issues with number of chickens hatched per number of eggs laid. 🔹 DM me to subscribe to my weekly newsletter, PreShift, where I discuss industry trends 💡 and current market updates 💹

Food Ads vs. Reality - Are we crossing the line into deception? We've all seen those tantalising food commercials – burgers glistening, overflowing with toppings, looking almost too good to be true. The purpose is to entice the audience to take a bite, but if reality doesn't match up with expectations, we have a problem on our hands. Burger King in the US is the latest name in the hot seat, facing a class action lawsuit alleging their ads exaggerate the meatiness of their Whopper burgers and other sandwiches. But they're not the only ones being called out. According to Perkins Coie, an American law firm, class action suits against food and beverage companies have surged, reaching a whopping (pun intended) 214 in 2022, up from just 45 in 2010. What's driving this growing food fight? It's a mix of greater consumer awareness, social media's power to expose dining experiences, and more people questioning product claims amidst rising health consciousness. Added to the fact that inflation worldwide is forcing many in the foodservice industry to reduce portion sizes, it has become a concerning trend.
