“I love the impact of storytelling, and particularly the way that videos can be a tool for inspiration, advocacy and support. Great videos can make you think, feel, act. The medium is so immersive; there are so many ingredients that make up a video that will move and inspire, from great interviews, to carefully curated visuals and music. The end result is a fully engaging audio and visual sensory experience, with the power to connect your audience to a story, a person, a movement. I love using my skills to collaborate with the Two Good team. My favourite part is the production process - it’s such a good mix of interpersonal, technical and creative skills. They’re always so clear with their brief and deliverables, which makes my job so easy on the day - working out how we’ll facilitate the recordings, making decisions about what cameras and lenses to use, so we can achieve the appropriate look and feel for the videos. I especially love sitting with someone and being trusted to journey with them as they share an experience; memory is such a gift. I believe I have a unique ability to blend my interpersonal and communication skills, which help shape my storytelling process and technical expertise in the digital space. I draw on my skills from my previous work as a youth worker - and later, Executive Manager, where I was responsible for managing a team of over 100 volunteers and staff across multiple departments including finance, community services, youth services and social enterprises. I’m also lucky to be surrounded by a passionate, people-centred team who take the necessary time to understand a project, to ensure it stays on budget, to execute and deliver it as best we can. We all share the goal of creating an intentional, immersive end result, and as such, we throw everything into our work to ensure we have an outcome that is beyond expectation. As video creators, understanding the power of storytelling can elevate our work and engage audiences on a profound level, we used storytelling to help this project resonate with audiences more. In both stories and life, heroes exemplify qualities like selflessness and courage, earning status along the way. They're driven by goals, facing challenges, and striving for success. This fundamental drive can be traced back to our earliest origins as single-celled organisms. Our goals, ambitions, and desires are rooted in our evolutionary history, shaping our connections with others and the narratives we create. This compulsion to act is so strong that psychologists describe it as "almost as basic a need as food and water." Goals provide order, momentum, and logic to our lives, with our perceptions and emotions aligning with them. They play a crucial role in the tension and thrill of storytelling, making us feel the protagonist's struggles, joys, and failures. Video games are prime examples of stories that tap into our core desires for connection, status, and goals. They can be so powerful that they become addictive, drawing us into immersive narratives that fuel our innate cravings. One of the most powerful uses of video has nothing to do with storytelling. 😲 Sometimes, the assignment is far more complex. ⤵ Not all products and services are easily pitched in an elevator. We've had clients take an hour to fully explain their business. Sometimes, they insist we come on-site to see their operations in action. I get it. Effective businesses solve complex problems with equally complex solutions. But this is where video excels. With video, there are three layers of messaging at your fingertips. Together, they can simplify rocket science: 1: Narration - through voiceover and interviews, you an audibly explain your process 2: Visuals: with video and photos, you can visually showcase your process 3: Details: using motion graphics and animation, you can break down complex concepts and highlight dozens of benefits When a complex subject is woven across all three mediums, you not only save your audience's time, you create engagement. I've said it before and I'll say it again - every effective video starts in pre-production. Strategy is the difference between a pretty video and an effective one. P.S.
