Just look at my situation - from homeless, to having a place and a better job, earning money, can support a family. You will get there too. I never thought that I would be in this situation; I can now say that I'm super independent. These people giving you support and encouragement, believing in you, trust me...It will change your life.” Meet Marvie - Do Gooder, Work Work Alumni and courageous Pathways storyteller. From domestic violence and financial abuse, to homelessness, immigration challenges and debt, Marvie bravely rebuilt her life...all with a newborn in her arms. This clip is one of the many video diaries in our PATHWAYS project - a custom-built tool, built in collaboration with Ecstra Foundation and the American Express Foundation, that connects thousands of vulnerable women to resources and services that empower them to achieve financial freedom and independence. Using video diaries from women with lived experience, we crafted three PATHWAYS - Healing From Financial Abuse, Improving Financial Literacy and Preparing For Employment - with a network of services and resources to guide her through each chapter. Since its launch in June 2023, we've seen 1,600 unique users visit Pathways and 180 conversions to support services through our PATHWAYS journeys. 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆-𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆.𝗰𝗼𝗺 ⬅️ Helping technology and consumer companies cultivate powerful brands. I create brand campaigns that deliver brand clarity and exponential growth 📈
As the year winds down, I find myself reflecting on life's true treasures. Among them, the simple yet profound moments like walking my daughter to school on work-from-home days stand out. These are the times that enrich our lives beyond measure. But amidst these personal joys, a harsh reality persists - the staggering level of child poverty in the UK. With over 5 million children living in poverty, it's a national crisis that deeply troubles me. How can it be that in the world's sixth-largest economy, such disparities exist? This issue hits close to home. Recently, I had the opportunity to buy birthday presents for less fortunate children at my son's school. The experience was eye-opening and deeply moving. It reinforced my belief that we all have a role to play in making a difference, however small it may seem. With this in mind, I urge my LinkedIn community to take a moment and consider how we can help. Whether it's donating presents, contributing to food banks, or simply offering financial support, every gesture counts. This Christmas, let's spread not just cheer but also hope and assistance to those who need it most. I've involved my children in this mission, encouraging them to donate some of their Christmas presents. It's a small step, but one that teaches invaluable lessons about compassion and social responsibility. As we prepare to welcome a new year, let's commit to being agents of change. Let's unite to alleviate child poverty and create a society where every child has the opportunity to thrive. Our actions, no matter how small, can have a profound impact. Together, we can make a difference. Let's do our part this Christmas and beyond. #ChildPoverty #SocialChange #CommunitySupport #ActOfKindness

It's crucial to recognize the significant challenges faced by individuals impacted by the criminal justice system. Finding acceptance and opportunity can be incredibly tough due to biases and closed-mindedness from businesses and individuals in society. This situation often perpetuates a cycle of poverty, recidivism, and social exclusion. Let's work together to break down these barriers, promote understanding, and create inclusive opportunities for all members of our community. By fostering empathy and offering second chances, we can build a more supportive and equitable society where everyone has the chance to thrive. Advancing gender equality, diversity and inclusion at work | Communications strategist | Storyteller | Proud ally
April has been a particularly distressing month for women across Australia. It seems like each morning we wake to news that another woman has been murdered (not 'lost their life' - murdered), and these are just the stories we hear about. Mothers. Sisters. Daughters. Friends. Colleagues. Gone forever, swept up in the wave of gender-based violence that is tearing through our country. Sadly, many of these deaths could have been prevented, compounding the tragedy of bright lives cut too short and highlighting the failings of our justice system. It's easy to feel helpless. I know I often do. But there are small steps we can each take. Show up to rallies. Write to our MPs demanding funding and reform. Sign the petitions. Call out those who deny the problem. Make it known to the people around you that you are a safe space for them. Educate yourself on signs of domestic, financial and emotional abuse. Hold the men in your life accountable. Be accountable yourself. Model to your children what a healthy and safe relationship looks like. It is imperative that we come together and demand change. Today, if you can, please consider donating to the below charities which are doing incredible work to help end gender-based violence and to support victims. *** Women's & Girls' Emergency Centre (WAGEC) - a feminist, grassroots organisation that supports women and families in crisis and advocates for social change in the community: https://lnkd.in/gmv-4VnM The Lisa Harnum Foundation (Official) - striving to prevent family violence and end the cycle of abuse through education and social change: https://lnkd.in/g_dGC8bb

Today, we join the world in recognising International Missing Children's Day. Every year, countless children go missing around the world, leaving behind devastated families and communities. In 2022 alone, millions of children were reported missing globally, with staggering numbers such as 83,350 in India, 94,200 in Germany, and 359,094 in the United States (International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children) Each of these children has a story, a dream, and a family yearning for their return. Their absence leaves a void, a constant reminder that they are still loved and actively searched for. At Space 2 Grow, we refuse to let these children be forgotten. We raise our voices for the voiceless, shining a light on the darkness of their absence. Every child deserves to be safe, to be loved, to be found. The heartache of a missing child is unimaginable. This day allows us to show our support and offer hope to those families who haven't given up. We understand the complexities of battling this. By developing empathetic strategies and impactful programs, we help our partners provide sustainable support to survivors. Now here is what you can do: 👉Stay Informed: Learn about the issue and spread awareness. 👉Support Organizations: Donate to or volunteer with groups dedicated to finding missing children. 👉Be Vigilant: Keep an eye out in your community and report anything suspicious. Behind every statistic is a child. Behind every name is a story. Let’s ensure these stories don’t end in silence. #InternationalMissingChildrensDay #FindEveryChild #Childprotection

Challenge: Can you solve housing insecurity in 500 characters? 🏘️🤔🏡🤔🏠 In their most recent cycle, The Citi Foundation asked nonprofits to describe their strategy to address homelessness in 500 characters. Do you know how short 500 characters is? Let’s put it this way: 500 characters can create about 100 words. It takes less than one minute to say 100 words out loud. 🫥🤷♀️🤷🏽🤷🏻♂️ Say it with us: #CrappyFundingPractices! The Citi Foundation’s request for proposals to address homelessness contains 670 words and 4,500 characters. 🤨 They think we need 11% of the characters to describe our strategy as they need to ask us to submit one? So far, you’ve read more than 500 characters in this post. 😒 C’mon Citi Foundation - you want innovative solutions? Give us a little more room to describe ours. No more miniscule character counts, please! 🤓 Are you a sad city mouse just trying to apply for funding without needless barriers? Tell us all about it: 📢 https://lnkd.in/eMaXk6ZS

Gentle Saturday reminder: you don’t have to wait for an ask to send a person support. Asking for support on a continual basis is hard, exhausting and demoralizing. You know who is struggling in your community. I can think of a dozen people right now who could really use twenty bucks. I don’t know what they’d use it for and, it doesn’t matter. That ain’t my business. If you believe that five or ten bucks won’t make a difference then please understand that yes, yes it does. This society doesn’t understand the “collective” in collective care. If you think “but what if they don’t need support?” then, you aren’t paying attention. Have they asked for assistance numerous times, month after month? If yes, then their need is probably chronic due to capitalism, systemic inequity and a lack of social safety nets. Their financial situation is not a failure of the individual - it is a purposed function of society that works as intended. Trust me, the very nano second my financial situation levels up, you all will know about it. Baby, the way I will scream it from the rooftops as I make it rain on community fundraisers… Want to read more about the fuckery of poverty? Join my Poverty Sucks newsletter as a paid subscriber. 2024 Goal: to only have to write about poverty and not continue to live in it. Your subscriptions help me do that. *links and ways to support are in the comments. (click “most recent” if you can’t see it.” Ask for help if you need it. Help folks if you can. This ain’t gotta be hard. ✊🏽🍉 {Brown fist of solidarity emoji and watermelon emoji} #PovertySucks

Can you help us throw a lifeline to women in housing crisis? In 2023, older women were the fastest growing group experiencing homelessness in Australia. And women often face specific challenges because they are care-givers, experience family violence or lack financial independence. But with your support, we can continue to help women who have nowhere else to go. Every day, we see how discrimination and disadvantage increase the risk of homelessness for women. That’s why we offer a specialist women’s service as part of our Homeless Persons’ Legal Service: to provide catered support that helps women get their lives on track. From helping women out of dangerous living situations, to preventing unfair evictions, our service offers support when women need it most. But we need more to do more. Please donate to help keep women in safe and secure housing. https://lnkd.in/ghinQ8qa Pictured from left to right: Senior Solicitor Rachael Barwick, Solicitor Zelie Appel, Community Caseworker Christina Kasavetis, Paralegal Ebony Seymour and Principal Solicitor Kira Levin.
