📚💬 How do you talk about education when your country is at war for the third year in a row? ENGin along with other educators and NGOs in Ukraine participated in the presentation on February 10 of the study "War and education. 2 years of full-scale invasion." ⠀ 🌐 The organizers of this event were the International Charitable Fund savED and the sociological agency Vox Populi with the support of the U-LEAD with Europe Program. ⠀ 📊 The full-scale invasion led to a significant deterioration in the level of access to education for Ukrainian children due to hostilities, destruction of schools and displacement. At the end of 2023, the statistics of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine testified that 3,798 educational institutions throughout Ukraine were affected by Russian shelling, and 365 of them were destroyed. ⠀ 👩🎓 The Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Oksen Lisovyi, together with community representatives, took part in a panel discussion on overcoming the consequences of war in communities. Anna Putsova, co-founder of savED, spoke about digital educational centers and their impact on restoring access to education. ⠀ 📌 It is important to note that as part of ENGin’s cooperation with SaveED, many students from de-occupied or affected communities got access to the opportunity to communicate in English with international volunteers for free. ENGin is stated within the Guide to Creating Educational Centers in the Community. ⠀ #savED #VoxPopuli

We are delighted to share the #winner from our Business and Community Impact Awards evening for Community and Outreach Project of the Year, Canterbury for Ukraine. 🏆 Canterbury for Ukraine (C4U) was formed as a community response to support displaced Ukrainians coming to the UK and Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) has acted as a strategic partner from the outset. The University formed a Ukraine Taskforce, initiated by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Rama Thirunamachandran OBE DL, which involved key staff stakeholders in all areas of the University. Initially, CCCU collected clothing and supplies, which have been sent to Ukraine on a regular basis. CCCU hosted a Welcome Event for Ukrainians, this event brought displaced Ukrainians, their host families, the City Council and Lord Mayor and other local charities together for the first time. The staff in the Centre for Language and Linguistics, led by Dr Kevin Balchin, set up a Ukrainian language programme, with embedded employability training, which has trained over 500 displaced Ukrainians since its creation and continues its work even today. However, the changing realities of the conflict have required that C4U and the university remain adaptable. For example, when a Ukrainian family were made homeless due to problems with their host family, the University stepped in and provided temporary accommodation until the family were resettled. In addition, we were honoured to be asked to host a memorial event in the University Chapel, which was attended by over 150 people, which commemorated the anniversary of the war in February 2023; and the University is now also hosting displaced academics, who are continuing their research and the safety and support of our community. In addition, Governance and Legal Services are currently assisting C4U in the development of policies and procedures, such as safeguarding, which will allow C4U to continue its work in the medium-term. The impact C4U has had on the community in the past year is without doubt, however, C4U remains ever hopeful that the ultimate goal is that it is no longer required, and that our Ukrainian friends can proceed home, to leave in a peaceful and free country. #cccuconnect #bciawards #businessawards #community #impact #canterbury4ukraine

Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association Statement Calling for Ceasefire in Gaza I am relieved that APALA has spoken up about the need for a ceasefire in Gaza. We cannot claim to fight for freedom of information and then be silent (and complicit) in the case of a genocide. Hopefully the rest of the library world will start to speak up as well! And call your representatives- CEASEFIRE NOW. "APALA denounces these violent acts against civilians, and recognizes the ongoing collective punishment as acts of genocide, violating international law. As an organization, we advocate for every individual’s basic right of liberty and peaceful existence, regardless of their ethnic or religious background. We are concerned about the ongoing violence against Palestinians and the Islamaphobic backlash against those racialized as Arab or Muslim across the U.S. We also recognize the rise in antisemitism that stems from this conflict. Additionally, we acknowledge that a system rooted in oppression and white supremacy creates hostility and violence against people of the global majority. We stand firmly against antisemitism, Islamophobia, and the misinformation being spread following these tragic events. We call for an immediate ceasefire and access to critical resources and humanitarian aid restored. Join us in taking action: Call to action toolkit." https://lnkd.in/gnCWyBqz

💥 Throughout the war, the russian army attacked educational institutions in Ukraine and destroyed many of them. The occupiers left their mark in the schools they occupied and misused them for military purposes. 📝 The institution Mizhvukhami documents these inscriptions and artifacts that reveal the atrocities and the so-called "russian culture" during the occupation and showcase them on the plattform “Wall of Evidence”. This data is collected through expeditions to the deoccupied territories, making the archive available to researchers and artists. 👩💻 Recently a study on how russia is using and destroying Ukrainian schools by researcher Tetyana Savchenko was published on the Wall of Evidence website. This publication is based on information from the article: https://lnkd.in/eVMmfrXM 🏫 In contrast to the russian destruction of Ukrainian education, we want to provide children in the Kharkiv region with a safe learning environment. Together with the Serhiy Prytula Charity Foundation, we have launched a fundraising campaign to renovate a school shelter in the village of Novopokrovka. 🙏 Support our goal and help the children in Ukraine to build a future. Apply as a Ukraine Amplifier or donate - every contribution counts! https://lnkd.in/ePmvrSF8

There are 10M NGOs and 50M NGO and nonprofit workers in the world. Impressive, isn't it? The third sector, which includes charities, social enterprises, and voluntary groups delivers essential services, often acts as a safety net to catch people who fall outside of government or other public sector support. Education is one of many playing fields. In principle, education is free in Poland. But Polish Adam Smith Research Centre estimates that an average family spends around 309k PLN on getting their child through the public educational system up to the age of 18. It goes without saying that this is a crazy high number for many Polish families. This is why we believe scholarships are still very much needed. That is why we believe in the work we do every day. This is why a lot of our volunteers get lots of energy from their involvement in our activities. And that's also why we need your help! Awareness of educational scholarships is still not where it should be in Poland. The more people learn about the opportunities, the more people can be helped. Access to information is the most critical step of their journey - and that has no price. So spread the word and treat this as a gift to all our volunteers on this important day! Member of advisory committee of Europe Prykhystok took part in Ukraine recovery conference Stanislav Kutsenko took part in Ukraine recovery conference in Berlin on June 11-12, 2024 (URC2024). Among the participants of URC2024 were the top-ranking authorities of EU and Ukraine, delegates from USA and other states. Main issues raised at conference were economic recovery, growth and resilience of Ukraine. During conference it was great possibility to establish contacts with more than 50 new partners, particularly, in Germany and Switzerland concerning organizing further respite stays and transplanted classes for Ukrainian children. Certain mayors of European cities expressed their interest to host Ukrainian children in upcoming months. Most valuable was contact with Congress of German cities (Deutscher Stadtetag). Deutscher Stadtetag expressed strong support in activities of EP in building bridges of solidarity and organizing respite stays for Ukrainian children. Representatives of this organization plan to share information about Europe Prykhystok with its member cities. Additional subject of meetings was assistance in shelters construction near frontline schools and in unoccupied regions of Ukraine. Several potential donors from Holland and Germany expressed interest in recovery of schools. Such events are great possibility for EP to enlighten its initiatives to help Ukrainian children and establish more twinning between EU and Ukrainian cities and hromadas. #EuropePrykhystok #SupportUkraine #GermanCities #RespiteStay #Fundraising #CommunityBuilding

We have been in engaged in a lawsuit in the state of Texas for some years now, pushing to get a response to our Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request as to how Texas A&M is using the hundreds of millions of dollars that they received as donations from Qatar. We are grateful to be represented in this case by Judicial Watch. When we issued our FOIA to the university a number of years ago, rather than respond, they informed their funders in Qatar, who hired a high-priced legal firm to petition the Texas Attorney General to allow the university to withhold the documents that we were rightly entitled to. Earlier this year, the judge in Texas ruled in our favor, and we received a great deal of documents from university. It is a time-consuming process to go through these records, so we don't have conclusions yet. Our interest is to understand what strings are attached to this huge amount of money that Qatar has provided this university. Our specific concern is if this money impacts anti-Israel behavior on campus. For instance, is money flowing to the anti-Israel student groups on campus that are engaged in antisemitism, at the expense of #Jewish students? Is cash arriving to #Israel and/or Middle Eastern studies programs on campus, where professors may be hired that have an anti-Israel world view? And when #antisemitism rears its ugly head on campus, is the university so beholden to their financial backers in Qatar, as they were with our FOIA request, that they remain silent or try to hide the evidence?

This is Ahmad Allaham. Ahmad just took part in our Guidance Programme in Lebanon and this is what he had to say about it: ‘The training opened our eyes to things that we didn’t consider or think were essential, such as the resume and motivation letter. I believe that these will really help me in the future. I’m currently applying for a scholarship to universities, so I will really benefit from these skills. My wish is to study computer science. Previously I didn't really know what I want to study, however, through the questionnaires in the training, I found my interests. I’m passionate about this major as it requires good knowledge of maths and physics, which I'm good at. As Syrians in Lebanon, getting access to education is really important to us, especially considering the situation in our home country. Who will rebuild Syria in the future? It's absolutely us, and we can only do that with our education.’ All donations to Mosaik until the 5th of December are DOUBLED. One donation, twice the impact. If you want to help more students like Ahmad realise their potential and live a life beyond survival, donate using the link in our bio or 'Big Give' highlight. 📆 28 Nov- 5 Dec ✌️One Donation, TWICE the impact . . . . . . . #MosaikEducation #WithRefugees #LearningThroughTechnology #EdTech #Refugees #Refugee #EducationForRefugees #RightToEducation #TheOtherOnePercent #DisplacedPersons #HigherEducation #RefugeeForum #refugeeswelcome #education #migrants #politics #humanity #peace #europe #policy #news #government #abolishice #migration #standwithukraine #humanrights #ukraine #climatejustice
