In a surprise to literally everyone, Oregon now claims the top spot in the race for #pricetransparency compliance. Home of Nike, looks like they finally decided to Just Do It. Alaska still not making the most of those daylight hours, languishing in 2nd place. Maybe they're more of a night owl? Iowa, briefly sitting pretty in 1st, is now resting on their laurels in 3rd place. Special mention to Washington DC for being the "state" in 4th place. While residents of DC continue their fight to become the 51st state, we're happy to bring Pluto back and finally give them a moment in the State sun. How do we think this will play out over the weekend?? https://lnkd.in/gNNnhgVn

"Shaping Generational Impact In The Outdoors: How Breaking Targets Is Breaking Barriers And Providing Outdoor Opportunities For All" By Brittany French Safety, discipline, responsibility, self-confidence and respect are all characteristics that were instilled in us from a young age. Now, it is our responsibility and opportunity to pass that on to the generations that come behind us. The USA Clay Target League is leading by example by creating a space for over 49,000 student-athletes to learn the various disciplines of clay shooting in a single school year. Rooted in safety, fun, and marksmanship, the league continues to grow year after year, equipping the next generation to continue building the legacy of its impact. Super fun time speaking with current marketing students at University of Portland - including a few students I’ve previously had in class! Hopefully my hot takes weren’t too hot 😄 Some highlights: - Don’t blanket add people on LinkedIn; invest in relationships with contacts you make like you would anyone else! - Your grades don’t matter as much as your ability to demonstrate responsibility and follow through (which more often than not ends up being reflected in your grades anyways). - Leverage college as an opportunity to learn how to think critically and connect with folks who hold different perspectives and experiences than you. Empathy and wisdom will take your career higher and farther than solely focusing on being a high performer by yourself. We need to be able to serve alongside others!
So grateful and thankful for our University of Portland Alumni (Daniel McGarry, Andrew Hansen, and James Lung) who came to speak on our Marketing Panel for our Professional Development course in the Pamplin School of Business. What a fun time it was seeing everyone come together and working with other students to put this all together! Go Pilots!

Don't be surprised if you see Kennesaw State University or University of Indianapolis follow the lead of Lindenwood to cut athletics opportunities in the coming years. The finances don't add up and there will be a tidal wave of expenses not realized by the leaders at these institutions. Analysis on KSU, UIndy: https://lnkd.in/gZEQrgKW Or for that matter, University of Southern Indiana. Analysis on USI: https://lnkd.in/g_KPQGZG University of Delaware are you paying attention? Of course they aren't. As of 2019, Delaware operated on 87% subsidy from students and the institution. Athletics is generating only 13% of its own revenue to pay its bills, and wants to move to CUSA and DI-FBS? Unwise financial decision that will lead to cuts in the near future. It costs MORE to move up a division than the new money raised. Always.
In less than two years, Lindenwood University went from being bullish on Division I, to cutting nine varsity sports. What happened? https://lnkd.in/gknkZhUH

Very interesting article on the influence of Black caddies on the game of golf by my Spatial Research & Design colleague Craig Gill. Definitely worth a read!
Dipped my toes back into my old historical work and wrote about the rich history of skilled Black caddies at this week's U.S. Open venue, Pinehurst, North Carolina. Read it here in TIME's Made by History column: https://lnkd.in/gusDQm6e

We at the Running Industry Diversity Coalition (RIDC) are thrilled to announce that we have received over 100 submissions for our inaugural RUN THE BLOCK grant and mentoring program. WOW! This is an amazing response for a first-of-its-kind initiative to increase Black ownership in the running industry. Here's some geographic data 🤓: RUN THE BLOCK has attracted applicants from all corners of the United States, highlighting its broad national appeal to current and future Black retail business owners. Leading the pack, we have New York (11), California (10), Texas and Illinois (9 each), Georgia (8), and Maryland (7). North Carolina also shows strong interest with (7), followed by New Jersey (6) and Tennessee (5). We're excited to see submissions from Florida, Ohio, and Michigan (4 each), Alabama (3), and Louisiana, Massachusetts, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Virginia, and Washington (2 each). We also have applications from Colorado, New Mexico, the District of Columbia, Rhode Island, Iowa, Utah, and Wisconsin (1 each). Following this list is my very amateur visual map of cities illustrating the geographic distribution of our applicants. I will #dobetter next time lol. We are all excited about the enthusiasm for RUN THE BLOCK and can't wait to see the impact this program will make. It will be challenging to narrow it down to one winner this year, but our teams—comprised of retail owners, investors, small business advisors, brand leaders, and others—are ready for the challenge. Stay tuned for updates! #RunningIndustry #DiversityAndInclusion #BlackOwnedBusiness #RunTheBlock #RIDC #Running4Diversity

Detroit undoubtedly is one of the most hitten cities in the world in terms of globalization, offshoring changed radically the economic landscape of the city and made one of the poorest in terms of GDP, opportunities and economic expectations of growth, which indeed brought other problems such as poverty, low education level and higher criminal levels It’s true that organizations must find better ways to optimize costs and investments but not creating a deadly social initiative to implode expectations over people and regions. I know, as a statement could sound fair and aspirational, but how to make the right decisions in terms of cost 💲 if at the end, the very same ones will kill the opportunity to get the product sold In economics there’s always a winner and the one who will develop slower or has to do more This reflection came after this great opportunity from Detroit Lions to reach Divisional Championship in NFL and in the search of conference championship, and why not superbowl 30 years of not winning a playoff game for Lions. It’s when you realize that Sports and shows, as NFL is, bring joy and hope to social communities in trouble. I don’t have anything less but wishing a long journey to Lions on this quest to superbowl

South Carolina won, with a perfect 37-0 record and new fans of women’s basketball continue repeating the tired refrain that “Caitlyn single-handedly revolutionized women’s basketball.” This discourse seems to suggest that commercials, interviews, magazine covers, sponsorships and promos invest in themselves. CC is an exceptional offensive talent, but the overinvestment in her brand is what made women’s basketball more watchable. Clark literally cannot do that herself. Just because you never watched women’s basketball before does not mean there was no prior electrifying talent worth the same investment Clark is now receiving. The fact that so many people are spending more time playing defense for Caitlyn (something she doesn’t do very well), and less time celebrating South Carolina’s 37-0 victory, shows me how and why CC has the fandom she does: we are more invested in racial narratives (about Black girls as “ghetto,” “mean,” etc. and white girls as “classy”) than we are in the beauty of the sport itself. To be clear: talking about race does not take away from Caitlyn’s greatness. It just exposes the lie that greatness never existed before her.
