Packed with loopholes: Why the AI Act fails to protect #CivicSpace & the #RuleofLaw.     Together with the European Civic Forum and Civil Liberties Union for Europe, we present an analysis of the #AIAct, the AI Act fails to set a golden standard for the protection of fundamental rights, civic space and the rule of law.    Here are its 5 main flaws:  1️⃣ Gaps and loopholes can turn prohibitions into empty declarations.  2️⃣ Providers' ability to arbitrarily exempt themselves from being "high-risk" threatens fundamental rights protections.  3️⃣ Standards for fundamental rights impact assessments leave a lot to be desired.  4️⃣ The use of AI for national security will be a largely rights-free zone, in contradiction with EU treaties.  5️⃣ Civic participation in the implementation and enforcement in not guaranteed.    The limitations of the AI Act highlight the need for a European Civil Dialogue Agreement.
