#CCAM. 📢 AI4CCAM interview! 📢 Arnaud Gotlieb, Simula Research Laboratory, project coordinator,  in this interview explains more about the context and the innovation behind the AI4CCAM project, also focusing on the possible exploitation in the coming five years. AI4CCAM is dedicated to the development of #Trustworthy #AI methods for connected #automatedvehicles, and innovates in different directions: ✅ intensive research are conducted to develop scenarios which involve ethical issues with vulnerable road users such as pedestrians or cyclists ✅ the project is conducting research on scene understanding using qualitative reasoning, which is a very hot topic and on pedestrian behaviour analysis by using virtual reality and neuroscience ✅ AI4CCAM is conducting social science studies related to user acceptance of automated vehicle in urban conditions ✅ the research results obtained in the project will be confronted in three use cases which involve realistic simulations. AI4CCAM, in 5 years from now, will pave the way for the adoption of AI in automated vehicles in a responsible and EU-compliant way. Back at BMW! Excited to share my experience presenting Artificial Intelligence for executives at BMW's car body production facility in Regensburg. My session covered the fundamentals of AI, its history, the critical role of data, and practical applications, drawing from nearly two years of firsthand experience at BMW's car body production and three semesters of academic study on AI. It was a challenge giving an hour-long talk, plus a 30-minute Q&A session, but immensely rewarding. Receiving great feedback showed me that I wasn't the only one learning something that day, which was awesome. Thank You BMW Group for the invitation and the opportunitiy. In particular, doing this in front of excecutives and at this point in my studies was a huge learning experience for me. Excited for the next stop: delivering this presentation at a seminar for the Hans-Böckler-Stiftung in April. 🤖 The 'Global Robot Brain' tl;dr: 34 labs worldwide are teaming up to create a general robotic brain that can tackle a wide range of tasks. By training a single neural network on data from different robots, they're unlocking the potential for helpful and adaptable machines. * * * In 2023, a team at Google and the University of California, Berkeley joined forces with 32 other labs to create the RT-X project. Their goal? To assemble data, resources, and code to bring general-purpose robots into reality. They've created a dataset containing nearly a million robotic trials for 22 types of robots, making it the largest open-source dataset of real robotic actions in existence. But what makes this project truly groundbreaking is its approach - cross-embodiment. By training a single deep neural network on data from multiple robots, the aim is to create a 'general robotic brain' that can control many different types of robots. A brain that can adapt and learn just like ours does when we pick up a tool or ride a bicycle. The results are promising: in head-to-head comparisons against each lab's own best control system, the unified model outperformed them all by about 50%. But this is only the beginning. They envision leveraging this model for many real-world robotic tasks, much like how large language models have mastered various language-based tasks. Ultimately, the objective is to make robots as commonplace as smartphones, assisting us in tasks from preparing breakfast to folding laundry. 🚀 I find this project fascinating, and not only because it looks like humans have finally learnt to collaborate but also because we're getting closer to the day when general-purpose robots, powered by shared global data, seamlessly integrate into our daily lives.
