✨ First Impressions at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity ✨ If this was your first or second time, please share your POV in the comments.⤵ Attending the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity for the first time has been an incredible experience. This event, renowned as the largest annual advertising gathering, promised a wealth of insights and opportunities to network with the brightest minds in our industry. 🕶 However, amidst the excitement, I couldn't help but notice the overwhelming presence of celebrities. While it's exciting for some to see familiar faces, it often felt like the essence of the festival—creativity and industry insights—was overshadowed. The abundance of celebrity appearances seemed to shift the focus away from the core purpose: to learn, share, and grow as professionals in advertising. For many, that was why they were there, and to each their own. From this observation, and after reviewing the overwhelming amount of individual apps, programming emails, group chat recos, and LinkedIn posts I resolved to do the following: 1️⃣ Prioritize panel discussions and workshops: Featuring industry leaders and experts who are known for providing actionable insights and thought-provoking discussions vs. outside-of-the-industry theory. 2️⃣ Attend the more intimate networking events: Smaller, focused gatherings where I could connect more meaningfully without the distraction of celebrity fanfare. 3️⃣ Navigated to talks that highlighted emerging or disruptive Talent: I love to hear from up-and-coming creatives whose fresh and atypical perspectives can inspire and invigorate the industry. 🔆 Cannes Lions has the potential to be a beacon of creativity and innovation, a place where industry professionals can come together to celebrate and advance the art of advertising, but you have to decide that is what you will get from the experience -- if that is what you want. 📣 General industry PSA: Let’s bring back the essence of creativity over celebrity to marketing and advertising. #CannesLions #CannesxCulture #CreativityOverCelebrity #Advertising #Marketing #Networking #IndustryInsights #FirstTimer #AdIndustry

Fast reflections on my 6th #CannesLions, and feeling inspired and incredibly grateful for the experience and my network.   While my Cannes instincts came rushing back,... knowing that Môka on Rue du Commandant André will always have a breakfast table when your first option fails, the time needed to navigate La Croisette from the Palais to the Martinez (exactly 13min if you don't stop and chat with a friendly face along the way, which of course never happens), how to gracefully exit a long Thursday night dinner in time to reconnect at 'the pubs' with colleagues, clients, and partners before the exodus, the Rue d' Antibes route is the fastest to Le Suquet (and that a late dinner at the foot of the old town still puts you at #AmazonPort in under 5mins or on this particular night just in time to be 'carried to Ohio in a swarm of bees' by the legendary, The National - see what I did there Samantha Bukowski? 🤣), and Cannes' one and only record shop, Discotis, is worth popping into for a stack of '60s French yé-yé pop 45s before heading to the airport,... #CannesLions24 felt different as I repped choreograph in my new role after so many years with #TeamMindshare. It was exciting to meet with new partners (and reintroduce myself to old ones), connect with a wider network of WPP clients, whilst also finding time to hang with my Purple People from around the globe. A few takeaways… 🛒 With consumers, marketers, and platforms aligned on #commercefirst experiences, it's clear #retailmedia is just media now. Plug for our new partnership with Incremental, where we'll use AI to rebalance the data asymmetry and unlock cross-retailer, outcome-based planning and optimization for our clients. 👨💻 Media dollars are actually following the availability of privacy-enhancing tech as marketers are seeking to widen their data aperture, and take an approach that puts #datacollaboration - not just data collection - at the heart of future growth on platforms. ⚽ 🏈 🎾 From the Palais to panels, brands have finally embraced athletes for their personalities off the field just us much for their performance on it. Brand x athlete collabs have shifted from spokespersonship to brand x (athlete) brand full-blown partnerships, with athletes bringing everything from media inventory to creator content to fashion and more. 📺 Brands as (commerce-enabled) media networks! So cool to see JPMorganChase have prime real estate this year for their new #ChaseMediaSolutions, and congrats to new friends Khatidja Ajania and team on launching Kinective Media℠ by United Airlines Media network! And the most important thing I took away… we have a team of rock stars. It was an absolute pleasure to spend time with all the brilliant, kind, fun nextgen data, tech and commerce leaders at choreograph and GroupM, and all of our agency client team partners. I'm sitting and watching the Met Gala live stream while working, here's what it taught me about B2B Tech PR..... . just kidding 🤓 I wouldn't do that to you! Part of the reason I moved from New Zealand to LA was my dream of walking the Met Gala stairs and I can happily say I'm now (geographically) closer to this achieving this!!! People find creative inspiration in many different formats. For me, a massive one is engaging in pop culture events like the Met Gala or GRAMMYs. Yes, I'm a pop culture nerd and get excited by celeb culture. But more importantly I find ways to flex my creativity around them. Creativity is like a muscle you have to flex and grow in order to continue improving and that's why I challenge myself to brainstorm ideas around these events... for fun! For example: The Mark Hotel is a hotspot for celebs to prepare for the big night. Could a brand collab with the hotel to design the entrance way mat stars walk out on? How do you go about finding creative inspiration? I'm always on the hunt to find new ways to flex the creative brain muscle 🤠 PS: i'm desperately awaiting Ariana Grande to step foot on this carpet and she better not let me down!!! #creative #creativity #MetGala #PR #publicrelations

Day 1/30: Ads That Tell a Story We've all seen those ads that aggressively push their product, but what about the ones that subtly sell while evoking real emotion? Those are the ones that truly captivate us. Over the next 30 days, I'll be sharing some of these fascinating ads that have personally moved me. Remember, these aren't necessarily the best out there, just the ones that have left a mark on me. During a recent listen to the Freakonomics No Stupid Questions podcast hosted by Angela Duckworth and Mike Maughan, they brought up an incredible ad by Publicis London for The HEINEKEN Company. This ad perfectly encapsulates the question, "Can we disagree better?" (the topic of the podcast). It features three pairs of individuals with radically opposing views who unknowingly find common ground while constructing a bar counter. The twist comes when they eventually discover each other's differing perspectives. You'll have to watch it for the rest! (Spoiler alert: I particularly loved the moment where the man who initially opposed Transgenderism jests, "I'm only kidding," after briefly walking off.) You might argue, "This would never happen in real life," and maybe it wouldn't, but why is that? Could it be that we're too attached to our own viewpoints? Are we too quick to dismiss the opinions of others without truly listening and understanding where they're coming from? In the podcast, they highlighted how we often fail to engage with others as individuals, only seeing them as carriers of certain viewpoints. What if we took a step back and tried to see the bigger picture, considering the facts and understanding the human behind the opinions? Imagine the impact it could have on our world. When starting out in my career, I was the person who would shy away from the camera.... But now, I love the challenge of featuring in video content and presenting Bonded Agency in an effective way. Is anyone else watching “Owning Manhattan” on Netflix?😅 It’s a great show about New York Real Estate, similar to Selling Sunset (only in my opinion… better houses! and better storytelling). What I particularly enjoyed about the show was seeing that these realtors understood the power of event and experiential marketing. There are multiple moments throughout the season that showcase this: - Chloe’s experiential open house party with themed cocktails, synchronized swimmers and immersive plant decor.  - Multiple open houses with themed snacks and refreshments. - The intimate team dinner as a means of retaining top employees. - Ryan’s business anniversary party (to build company culture & showcase the brand). - The music video that Jade produced to sell a commercial property. Elevating your open house to be more of an event is probably one of the better marketing investments you can make. You’re really able to showcase the lifestyle your buyers are getting when they purchase the home.
