It's always risky when a Euro semi-final falls on the same day as your event, but Wednesday was a great day for both England's win and our ‘Prestige Innovate: Reinventing Luxury Creative’ event. This collaborative effort by the TikTok UK Luxury & Auto team and Creative Ops team took place at the iconic Langan's Brasserie in London. A big shout out to our partners Influencer , Shuttlerock and Uncovered for their insightful presentations and entertainment. We delved into creative trends on TikTok, focusing on key areas such as: 💁🏻♀️ Blending Hi-Fi and Lo-Fi Content: Exploring how luxury and auto brands can maintain their prestige while tapping into authentic, relatable styles. 📰 Innovative Use of Still Images: Using modern magazine-like slideshows and stop-motion animations to create dynamic storytelling. 📈 Leveraging Data-Driven Insights: Utilising trends and search data from TikTok's Creative Center to craft targeted, effective campaigns. 🖤 Creator Collaborations: Partnering with diverse creators beyond the ‘expected’ and within niche communities to enhance relatability and reach, pushing the boundaries of creativity. In 2024, influencer marketing will be back like it never left. Truth is, it never went anywhere. Sure, the days of flat tummy teas dominating social media feeds are behind us, but brands are still leveraging talent (people with influence) relationships in order to reach communities that are often resistant to brand advertisements. “Currency” is still the master key. Where influencers of old were able to utilise social currency as leverage within sponsorships and brand deals, trust has become the most powerful currency of all, allowing brands to build actually authentic connections with their to-be consumers. From 2023, my personal favourite example of this in action was for New Balance, alongside high-street retailer Footpatrol, giving meaning to their ‘Made in UK’ tagline through our (GAUCHOWORLD) lens. Not only because he was my top artist on my 2023 Spotify Wrapped, but tendai’s unmistakable ‘Britishness’ meant he was perfect for a campaign like such. Despite the fact he doesn’t (yet) have hundreds and thousands of followers, he’s built a solid core fanbase, who trust him when they see him speak about how the New Balance brand shows up in his day. Whilst we don’t like to pay much attention to the numbers, they often can determine what might be considered an objectively ‘successful’ campaign. Engagement on that particular upload was 855% than the average post in the last quarter of the year, with the video having more shares than a video on the same page with 10x more views. In 2023, we’ve activated with an array of brands within the worlds of Music, Fashion, Sport and beyond, and we look forward to doing the same in 2024, helping brands speak directly to the consumers they desire to reach from ideation all the way through to production. The Cannes Film Festival is where celebrities go to feel like normal people. The Cannes Lions is where advertising people go to feel like celebrities. That was one of Lara O'Reilly’s takeaways from the Cannes Lions last week, aka summer camp for the ad industry. The biggest names in marketing made for the south of France, and Lara and Julia Hood were among them. What follows is a quick Q&A. What was the overall mood? Lara O’Reilly: Jubilant. The sun was shining, the rosé was flowing, and companies were back to spending big on their enormous setups along the beach. No signs of the so-called “ad downturn” along La Croisette this year. What were the topics du jour? LO: Artificial intelligence. Or, more specifically, why the industry needs to stop talking about AI — and other under-the-hood tech — and instead refocus on the kind of creative ideas that make a cultural and business impact. Julia Hood: Sports was the star of the show. Athletes on site included Megan Rapinoe, Sue Bird, the Kelce brothers, and many more. Sports is accelerating as a convener of people across the political spectrum — a safe way to bring people together. What did the event reveal about the industry? LO: For all the talk of automation, advertising remains a relationship business. Yes, this place is a hedonist’s playground of partying, VIP yacht experiences, and questionable ROI, but (I’m told) deals do actually get done here. What was the hottest ticket in town? JH: Wednesday night was the time to party for a lot of the attendees. Highlights included The Chainsmokers at Yahoo Beach and Arcade Fire at Spotify Beach. On Thursday morning, Jason and Travis Kelce recorded their “New Height” podcast at Stagwell’s Sport Beach. Despite the rumors, Taylor Swift was not seen. Many brands are struggling to find new ways to stand out and attract new generations of consumers. It's one of the hardest things. With the anticipation of director Baz Luhrmann's dazzling biopic of Elvis Presley, Sony Music Entertainment set out to streamline, refresh, and create a holistic marketing campaign that would bring the music of Elvis to the forefront of the conversation. Sony Music asked Studio Herrström to help them build the brand book that would serve as the visual backbone for the full campaign. Our brief? To craft a brand identity that resonates with today's audiences while honoring the King's timeless charm. Diving into Elvis's rich history, we examined every facet of his legacy - from his eclectic discography to his iconic stage outfits and jewelry. What did we find? Within such an iconic artist’s career, there are certain elements and visual expressions you have to leverage to succeed. Creating a brand that stands out once is one thing. But to rethink it for a new generation while staying true to its core values is another. We interviewed fans of all ages, watched countless videos and documentaries, and found inspiration in music posters from the eras that the King was active in. This helped us shape what became the success of the new brand for Elvis. Studio Herrström’s creative principles are based on three beliefs, one of which focuses on continuously allowing oneself to rethink brand identities to reach new audiences. Can you imagine viewing the Nirma brand TVC in mute? It the jingle and the song that lifted that commercial that it became a popular jingle for everyone to hum it and even today it is fresh and evergreen. Look at the national integration film Mile Sure Mera Tumara… which catches the attention because of the song. Yes, there are several national celebrities in that film but the brilliant combination of music and song has taken that film several notches high and even today it is played on every Independence Day. The famous advertising guru David Ogilvy said that if you have nothing to say you sing but, in our country, since we have a diverse culture the use of jingles and songs work with brands to emotionally connect with their audiences. While jingles are not so popular today but if the brand idea needs a song or jingle to embellish the film most brands encourage jingles to be blended. But unlike in the past we don’t see a film totally based on a jingle or a song. I have shared my views.
