Our energy grid is expected to see skyrocketing load demand, with data center power demand in the US alone on track to double from 2022 levels by 2030 (McKinsey). This is one of those situations where the crisis isn’t on the horizon. The emergency is NOW. In addition to all of these great grid-focused efforts, a combination of local energy resiliency (microgrids, battery and clean hydrogen storage) and intelligence in the datacenters themselves to drive dramatic efficiencies from optimizing the GPU utilization, and with it, the energy used for GPU cooling, are all needed. If ever there was a need for systems thinking, this is a prime example!
